British Columbia Public School Employers' Association | Make a Future - Careers in BC Education seeks an Educational Sign Language Interpreter to support deaf and hard of hearing students within the school system. The role involves interpreting in classrooms and school activities and collaborating with the District Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and classroom teachers.

Qualifications

• Two-year post-secondary program in Sign Language Interpretation.
• Grade 12 completion; active WAVLI member.
• Must have experience as an interpreter.
• Very high level of fluency in ASL.

Responsibilities

• Provides interpreting services for school functions including classroom instruction, assemblies, and meetings.
• Prepares for interpreting by previewing material, vocabulary, and concepts.
• Participates as a member of the I.E.P. team.
• Reviews previously taught concepts with students as needed.
• Operates equipment such as FM systems and computers on request.
• Assists with language development strategies and ASL use.
• Maintains confidentiality of student information.
