The Opportunity:


Postmedia is seeking a dynamic, innovative journalism leader to oversee the editorial vision and mission-centred content of the Regina Leader-Post and Saskatoon StarPhoenix newsrooms. The right candidate will be a champion of local news, with a deep understanding of how to use analytics to guide decision-making, and will be committed to journalism excellence with strengths in developing enterprise reporting.

The role requires a strategic mind, a track record in digital journalism and an understanding of issues important to residents living in Saskatchewan. The candidate should understand the brand values and audiences of both publications. The editor in chief will also support the growth of Postmedia publications via content exchange, sharing expertise, and collaborating on major projects with all Postmedia markets.

The candidate will inspire change within a legacy organization, guiding others to pivot to meet digital needs, and is unafraid of difficult conversations.

What you’ll do

  • Provide editorial direction for consistency across platforms and products while overseeing day-to-day operations in the two newsrooms.
  • Champion excellence in local journalism,focusing on real-time breaking news, explainers, in-depth journalism and opportunities to engage readers in support of strategic pillars driving the newsrooms’ mission.
  • Drive engagement across all platforms and understand and advocate for Postmedia’s strategic pillars in order to continuously increase audience and reader subscription.

Who you are

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a clear understanding of how to manage, develop and lead people.
  • Five or more years of managerial experience in a publishing environment as a content editor.
  • Deep familiarity with digital platforms and social media.
  • The ability to think strategically, combined with the expertise to develop and execute against short-term and long-term objectives.
  • Clear understanding of legal and ethical issues related to journalism
  • An outstanding record at building relationships up, across, and through the organization.
