Job description

Vapor Power, A Thermon Company, is seeking a full-time, Boiler Field Service & Start-up Technician to work from our facility located at 2721 Plymouth Drive, Oakville, Ontario, Canada. We are a manufacturer of premium quality Steam Generators and Thermal Fluid Heaters for facility, industrial, and marine processes.

We will train the right candidate who is already proficient in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical devices. The ideal candidate will have experience with and enjoy working with PLC and HMI devices, but will also be comfortable using hand tools, test meters, and a combustion analyzer to set the fuel/air ratio of fired burners. The candidate will currently or recently be working in the field at customer sites. Customer environments vary and include small and large boiler rooms, ship engine rooms, test labs, process plants, power plants, hospital boiler rooms, etc.

The position requires extensive travel; approximately 80% - 90% overall, with U.S. travel at 70% and overseas at 20% or less. Generally, field trips last less than 5 days and are scheduled during the work week. Travel by air or driving will be required based on distance. The company will provide a credit card, tools, test instruments, and a laptop.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform new unit start-ups at customer locations, nationwide and worldwide, on Vapor Power steam generators and thermal fluid heaters.
  2. Assist customers and service technicians with troubleshooting of controls and circuits.
  3. Provide field service to customers at their locations on Vapor Power steam generators and thermal fluid heaters.
  4. Conduct burner combustion and operation testing on production units at the factory prior to shipping.
  5. Provide phone support to customers when assistance is needed.
  6. Complete weekly trip reports and communicate as needed via email or phone to resolve customer issues. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.
  7. Write technical documents and descriptions of the operation of electrical circuits, including electrical system descriptions and operating instructions for customer manuals.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
Experience and Skills Required
  1. Experience with writing, loading, editing, and troubleshooting programs for PLC controllers and HMI devices, preferably using RS Logix500.
  2. At least 3 years of experience working with PLC and HMI devices.
  3. Experience with Siemens and Allen Bradley controllers is preferred.
  4. Excellent electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  5. At least 3 years of relevant work experience in related fields.
  6. Ability to read and follow electrical wiring diagrams and piping diagrams.
  7. Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems and devices.
  8. Experience servicing boilers, burners, and steam generating equipment is advantageous.
  9. Comfortable using hand tools, test meters, and a combustion analyzer to set the fuel/air ratio of fired burners. An HVAC background is helpful.
Preferred Education
  1. B.S. or A.S. Degree in an Engineering Technology field is a plus.
  2. Equivalent or related military training focusing on hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting will be considered.
Physical Requirements
  1. Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
  2. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  3. Access to and navigation in all areas of the facility and machinery.
