Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. A Trans Mountain Instrumentation Technician will be expected to provide Operational Support in a multi-skilled work environment that promotes public safety, environmental stewardship and pipeline integrity. In this role, the Instrumentation Technician would be required to utilize maintenance tracking software to document calibration and functionality testing completed on protective devices, custody transfer instrumentation and pipeline equipment used for both personal and equipment safety. A Trans Mountain Instrumentation Technician will also provide Operational & Emergency Response support to ensure public safety, environmental stewardship and integrity compliance.

The Instrumentation Technician will follow shift schedule of 8.58 hrs. Monday to Friday (Dayshift) with every 2nd Friday off. OT eligible. This position will be based at the Burnaby / Westridge Terminal location and will report to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Job Duties associated with this position include but are not limited to :

Key Responsibilities :

  • Install, calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain process instrumentation, communication networks and control. equipment including flow computers, tank gauging systems, custody transfer metering and associated equipment.
  • Utilize electrical / instrument drawings sets and associated schematics, update as-built drawings.
  • Supports programming and troubleshooting of Local Operator Interfaces and Programmable Logic Controllers. (Rockwell PLC and HMI software is the present standard used at Trans Mountain).
  • Provide Instrumentation support and maintenance to ensure system reliability.
  • Perform and document Instrumentation asset maintenance as defined by maintenance tracking software, ensuring system reliability and integrity.
  • Analyze, interpret and utilize the information contained in SCADA, HMI displays and P&ID drawings to ensure the safe operation of facilities.
  • Support Emergency Response initiatives and be required to take training in these areas.
  • Provide Operational support to ensure throughput and system reliability.
  • Provide Operational support for marine vessel mooring and release activities.
  • Assisting other technical groups as needed, including, but not limited to, maintenance and operations.
  • Participate in Emergency response exercises and scenarios.
  • Provide contractor oversight and monitoring.

Qualifications and Professional Experience :

  • High School completion.
  • Journeyman Instrumentation Red Seal is required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in an industrial environment.
  • Journeyman Electrician Red Seal Certificate would be an asset.
  • Process Control and Hydro Test fundamentals would be an asset.
  • Understanding Process Control and Hydro Test familiarity would be an asset.
  • Understanding of Canadian Electrical Code requirements would be an asset.
  • Commissioning and Start-Up experience would be an asset.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Availability to be on call as part of an on-call rotation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft D365, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Self-motivated, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail is critical.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle strict deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Support Overtime as required.
