Reporting to the Manager of Financial Accounting, this position will be responsible for the following duties:
- Planning, development, and implementation of evolving PSAB compliant capital asset accounting requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Researching PSAB requirements, industry best practices, existing asset sub-systems, and operational asset management requests.
- Developing and implementing methodologies for inventorying and valuing capital assets.
- Overseeing maintenance of the capital asset database and financial sub-ledgers to ensure proper financial reporting.
- Monitoring permissions and user access on capital asset systems.
- Managing system interfaces between all capital asset systems and other corporate systems.
- Collaborating with Financial and IT Teams to research, test, and implement new capital asset modules.
- Developing and maintaining capital asset systems aligned with Asset Planning needs.
- Engaging with City staff, external auditors, and consultants; leading training and promoting PSAB initiatives.
- Managing work allocation among staff and ensuring project completion.
- Performing Occupational Health and Safety duties and other related tasks.
Qualifications
- University degree in Business Administration with accounting major, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency, plus at least 6 years' experience; OR
- Post-secondary diploma in Business Administration with accounting major, or equivalent, plus over 10 years' experience.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA/CA, CPA/CGA, CPA/CMA) or acceptable equivalent.
- Ability to travel; valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract required if using a vehicle.
- Proficiency with accounting, spreadsheet, word processing, and database software.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and related hazards.
- Experience in financial management, fixed asset accounting, and financial reporting is an asset.
- Experience leading large financial projects or managing complex capital asset systems is an asset.
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financial Systems and PSAB standards is an asset.
- Light physical work as indicated by physical demands analysis.
