Job Duties
- Report to a Manager in the Financial Planning Area and serve as the financial subject matter expert for budgets and variances.
- Manage accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and processing of departmental budgets.
- Monitor and report on departmental budgets, analyzing spending and variances.
- Develop and present periodic reports to managers and executive directors.
- Provide financial advice, strategic planning, and perform complex business analysis.
- Perform budget to actual variance analysis and review council reports and business cases.
- Develop financial models, assess financial processes, and advise on policies and procedures.
- Process and review journal entries; assist with audits and prepare supporting documentation.
- Ensure high-quality service to internal and external customers.
- Perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the organization’s program.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- University degree in Accounting or Finance, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency, with at least four years of financial experience, OR
- Post-secondary diploma in Accounting or Finance with at least six years of experience, OR
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma plus additional courses and a recognized accounting designation with over ten years of experience.
- Strong understanding of fund accounting, financial reporting, and account analysis.
- Experience in budget preparation, trend analysis, and business case analysis.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, and accounting software.
- Excellent communication, planning, organizational skills, and ability to work independently and in teams.
- Ability to travel as needed; valid driver’s license required.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and municipal issues is an asset.
- Recognized accounting designation is an asset.
