Job summary

The Tla’amin Nation is seeking an Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECE I) for a 3-month temporary, part-time term. The 24-hour work week includes diverse duties in the Nation’s Child Development Resource Centre, under the Manager of Early Childhood Education.

The role emphasizes child safety, developmentally appropriate activities, and cultural learning within a supportive team. Required certifications include ECEA, First Aid/CPR, and Food Safe, with additional assets such as BCGEU alignment

Qualifications

• Completion of Early Childhood Education Assistant certification.
• Minimum 2 years of experience working with children.
• Knowledge of children’s developmental stages 0-6 years.
• Current successful Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• Current First Aid & CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
• Valid Food Safe Certificate or willingness to obtain.
• Knowledge of ɬaʔamɩn cultural practices is an asset.
• Driver’s License would be an asset.
• Recent TB Test.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and carrying out developmentally appropriate programs and activities for children on an individual and group basis.
• Assist in keeping the program environment and equipment clean and safe.
• Supervise activities to always ensure the health and safety of children.
• Participate in the preparation of daily nutritious snacks for the children.
• Apply good hygiene practices and instruct children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care.
• Ensure the smooth roll‑out of assigned daily routine duties (washroom, napping, snack/lunch, curriculum planning and delivery).
• Support traditional cultural teachings and practice for children to promote healthy physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual development.
• Assist ECEs in monitoring the children.
• Report problems or concerns to the Early Childhood Education Manager.
• Work as a positive, respectful, and contributing team player.
• Participate actively in provided professional development training.
• Support new Nation early childhood initiatives and programs.
• Comply with Tla’amin Nation policies and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

The successful applicant will be required to work in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement as well as the applicable policies and procedures of Tla’amin Health and Tla’amin Nation. This position is open to applicants of all genders.

Under the direction of the Manager of Early Childhood Education and in collaboration with the Early Childhood Educators (ECE) and other staff members, the ECE Assistant (ECE1) works to be an effective and positive part of the team within the Nation’s early childhood education programs. Priorities include the organization, cleanliness, and safety of the childcare environment, as well as the direct provision of care to children in the programs.

Key Responsibilities

Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin laws, regulations, policies, practices, and procedures as directed by the Position. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to citizens, clients, employees, and general matters of the Nation.

Working Conditions
