About Our School & Community
Tl'etinqox School is a rural, First Nations-operated school dedicated to fostering an environment where cultural identity, language, and academic growth go hand-in-hand. We see our students through a holistic lens—nurturing their mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Living and working in a rural, remote area means you will be part of a tight-knit community where relationship-building extends beyond the classroom walls. If you have a passion for land-based learning, deep respect for Indigenous worldviews, and a desire to make a lasting impact on youth, we want to welcome you to our team.

Position Summary
Working under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher and Learning Assistance Team, the Education Assistant (EA) will provide academic, social-emotional, and cultural support to students with diverse learning needs. This role is highly relational; you will work one-on-one or in small groups to help students build confidence, independence, and life skills while ensuring they feel safe, valued, and understood.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Student Support: Implement accommodations and modifications outlined in students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for literacy, numeracy, and daily assignments.
  • Cultural Connection: Support the integration of local Tsilhqot'in culture, language, and land-based learning practices within the classroom environment.
  • Social-Emotional Growth: Guide students through self-regulation techniques and positive behavior strategies, celebrating small successes with patience and consistency.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside classroom teachers, Language/Culture teachers, Elders, and families to create a seamless circle of support for the youth.
  • Community Presence: Assist with community-centric school programs, such as the breakfast/lunch program, cultural events, and local field trips.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Qualifications: An Education Assistant Certificate, Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma, or a degree/diploma in a related field. An equivalent combination of relevant life experience and community work will be highly valued.
  • A deep respect for Indigenous history, culture, and community values, with a genuine willingness to learn local culture.
  • Adaptability, resourcefulness, and patience. You understand that rural life thrives on flexibility and strong interpersonal relationships.
  • The ability to communicate with tact, empathy, and strict confidentiality with staff, families, and community members.
  • A valid clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (or a willingness to obtain one immediately) and a valid Driver’s License (preferred).
WHAT WE CAN OFFER
  • Competitive wages with a comprehensive health and dental benefits package.
  • A deeply supportive, communal working environment where you aren't just an employee—you are part of the extended family.
  • Opportunities for funded, ongoing professional development and cultural mentorship.
  • Generous school-year schedule (cultural days, summers, winters, and spring breaks off), with half-day Fridays.

We thank all applicants for their interest, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
