Teacher Assistant (Early Childhood Assistant)

Position Type: Temporary Part Time

Hours of Work: 5 hours/day

Start Date/Term: June 30, 2025 - August 29, 2025

Location: St. Andre Child Care Centre, 36 Yvonne Ave, North York, ON M3L 1C9

Position Summary

Delivers high-quality, developmentally appropriate programs to facilitate children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. Implements inclusive programs supporting children with special needs. Supports a team environment in the classroom and centre.

Responsibilities

1. Supervise children to ensure safety and well-being, maintaining a hazard-free environment.
2. Assist in planning, executing, and evaluating daily programs aligned with approved curricula promoting development.
3. Encourage active learning, build self-esteem, and facilitate spontaneous and planned experiences.
4. Observe and record children’s strengths, challenges, emerging skills, and interests.
5. Collaborate with the team to implement inclusive programming.
6. Record observations for early identification of individual needs.
7. Engage positively with children, fostering independence, problem-solving, confidence, and respectful behavior.
8. Communicate effectively with parents about their child's development and activities.
9. Participate in classroom setup and manage medication schedules and allergies.
10. Assist with drop-off and pick-up if required.
11. Serve and clean up meals, maintain cleanliness, and perform housekeeping duties as needed.

Qualifications

1. Graduate of an Early Childhood Assistant program or equivalent, with experience working with children, including those with special needs.
2. Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (if applicable).
3. Knowledge of ELECT, Play-Based curriculum, and inclusion-based program planning.
4. Excellent communication and listening skills.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, and email.
6. Ability to build effective partnerships with diverse families, colleagues, and service providers.
7. Multilingual abilities are an asset.
8. Acceptable Vulnerable Police Record Check.
9. Current Standard First Aid certification and immunization records.

Salary & Benefits

Starting at $25.44/hour, with a comprehensive benefits package, paid time off, and vacation days.
