Teacher Assistant (Early Childhood Assistant)

Position Details

• Temporary Full Time (Split Shift)
• Hours of Work: 7 Hours/Day
• Start Date: June 30, 2025 - August 29, 2025
• Reports To: Site Supervisor, St. Thomas Aquinas Child Care Centre

Position Summary

Delivers high-quality, developmentally appropriate programs for children to support their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. Implements inclusive programs, supports a team environment, and is based at St. Thomas Aquinas Child Care Centre.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children to ensure safety and well-being, maintaining a hazard-free environment.
• Assist in planning, executing, and evaluating daily programs based on approved curriculum and approach.
• Encourage active, inclusive, and respectful learning experiences to foster self-esteem.
• Observe and record children’s strengths, challenges, and interests.
• Collaborate with team to implement inclusive program plans.
• Record observations to support early identification of needs.
• Engage in positive interactions, promote independence, and model respect and kindness.
• Communicate effectively with parents, providing feedback on development and activities.
• Participate in classroom setup and manage medication schedules and allergies.
• Assist with drop-off/pick-up and meal routines, maintaining cleanliness and organization.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Early Childhood Assistant program or equivalent, with experience working with children, including those with special needs.
• Member of the College of Early Childhood Educators (if applicable).
• Knowledge of ELECT, Play-Based curriculum, and inclusive program planning.
• Strong communication skills, computer literacy, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to build effective partnerships with diverse families and colleagues.
• Multilingual ability is an asset.
• Vulnerable Police Record Check, Standard First Aid certification, and immunizations required.

Salary and Benefits

Starting at $25.44/hour, with a comprehensive benefits package, paid time off, and vacation days.
