Sobeys offers exciting opportunities and is seeking talented individuals to join our team. Currently, we have a contract position for a Human Resources Business Partner.

The HRBP will align business objectives with employees and management in our Retail Operations, serving as a strategic partner, consultant, and advisor on HR-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

Individual Accountabilities:

  • Provide coaching, advice, and guidance on employee relations issues, including policy violations, investigations, discipline, and terminations.
  • Ensure consistent deployment of Leadership Development programs, HR tools, systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Advise management on collective agreement administration, employment law, labor law, and Human Rights issues.
  • Collaborate with Labour Relations on negotiations and collective agreement administration.
  • Lead HR initiatives and projects, collaborating with internal and external partners.
  • Partner with Store Managers to lead investigations and provide recommendations.
  • Handle legal employment issues, representing the organization at mediations/arbitrations.
  • Contribute to the development of COE programs and execute Employee Programs.
  • Administer Total Rewards programs including salary, benefits, pensions, and incentives.
  • Support and lead Store Manager and Department Manager Training Programs, including talent acquisition and progress monitoring.
  • Foster a positive work environment among operational leadership, management, and employees.
  • Coach and support leaders on employee engagement initiatives and communication.
  • Manage performance review processes and develop workforce plans, including succession planning.
  • Support salary reviews, incentive programs, and compensation decisions for management roles.
  • Assist with store openings, closings, and transitions regarding recruitment, exits, and legal compliance.
  • Support complex employee-related procedures such as WCB, STD, LTD, LOA, and RTW.
  • Advocate for change, support business transitions, and educate franchisees on employment tools.
  • Monitor wage equity and conduct audits to ensure compliance with regulations.

Support Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with HR Centers of Excellence to develop and implement systems, tools, and policies.
  • Partner with the IHM team on employee leaves and return-to-work processes.
  • Coordinate with Talent Acquisition for recruitment efforts.
  • Liaise with legal counsel on legal matters and participate in mediations/arbitrations.
  • Assist Compensation with salary review and incentive programs.
  • Support Talent Management and Learning & Development initiatives.
  • Work with the L&D team on curriculum development and training facilitation.
  • Partner with management and union representatives to ensure consistent disciplinary and dispute resolution processes.
  • Support collective bargaining and agreement administration.
  • Identify change impacts from store/RSC initiatives and develop mitigation strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of HR Generalist experience.
  • Knowledge of all HR components and employment legislation.
  • Degree, diploma, or certification in HR or related field; undergraduate degree preferred.
  • Understanding of human behavior, business management, and strategy.
  • Ability to support multiple districts and operate in union/non-union models.
  • Retail experience is preferred.
  • Strong influencing, coaching, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent HR technical skills and legal knowledge.

* Note: Regular travel is required for this position.
