Windows Packager / Automation – System Engineer

PlanIT Group is seeking a Windows Packager / Automation – System Engineer for our Federal customer in the Washington, DC area. The ideal candidate will have Packaging and Automation experience. This position requires specialized knowledge and skills in the architectures, technologies, tools, and an in-depth understanding of the underlying hardware and software architectures, the ability to recognize, diagnose and resolve complex problems, and ability to evaluate and integrate emerging technologies independently and quickly.

Location: Remote in Raleigh, NC area
Start Date: 03/31/25
Duration: One year plus annual extensions

Required Skills:

  1. Ability to develop solutions using PowerShell, VBScript, etc. to identify and/or remediate problems/issues/requirements related to Microsoft Workplace Modernization efforts: Windows 10 SAC (and above) and Office M365 Apps.
  2. Ability to develop scripted solutions to evaluate, identify and remediate, when necessary, issues related to computer system health, i.e. status of critical services, restarting failed services, low disk space, high CPU utilization, review event logs for issues, etc.
  3. Collaborate/interact with other diverse functional groups to accomplish stated objectives.
  4. Research, evaluate, and develop a wide variety of complex technology components of a tactical nature.
  5. Independently install, test, and implement complex component-level changes within the technology infrastructure.
  6. Operate, maintain, and provide support for a wide variety of complex technology components.
  7. Establish operational processes for delivering world-class technology platforms.
  8. Independently analyze and develop innovative resolutions for complex problems involving availability and/or performance at the component level.
  9. Perform capacity and performance analyses and develop and implement recommendations.
  10. Develop, plan, and manage project tasks.
  11. Participate in the preparation of materials and oral presentations for customers and management.
  12. Play a lead role in meetings relating to specific technical projects or tasks.
  13. Develop and recommend innovative solutions to business problems of moderate complexity, including preparation of cost-benefit analyses.
  14. Establish and maintain working relationships with Suppliers. Understand and influence Supplier strategies and product directions.
  15. Develop and maintain specialized knowledge of current and emerging technologies within assigned division or platform.
  16. Provide training to less experienced team members of the IT department.
  17. Analyze and resolve complex hardware and software problems with distributed systems.
  18. Use in-depth knowledge of distributed hardware and software systems.
  19. Use the management systems for endpoints, including Tanium, MECM (Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager), Ivanti MDM/Neurons, Active Directory and others as required.
  20. Perform tests and implement hardware/software adds, changes, backup, and restoration functions, etc.
  21. Provide periodic reports to users and managers of systems status.
  22. Maintain project plans as required and notify management of critical failures and/or missed milestones.
  23. Provide an action plan for resolution of any/all faults detected.
  24. Provide documentation of all solutions to problems.
  25. Create change requests, in compliance with existing procedures, for change management.
  26. Provide on-site system or application support for deployment/installation as required.

This position requires the following demonstrated competencies:

  1. PowerShell scripting experience to focus on package creation and automation.
  2. Customer service skills and the ability to satisfy client problems and needs when working in a Service Center environment successfully and consistently.
  3. Effective oral and written communications skills.
  4. Ability to be proactive and resourceful in managing multiple priorities in a dynamic and fluid environment.
  5. A commitment to quality.

Education/Knowledge Requirements:

  1. A minimum of eight (8) to twelve (12) years’ relevant experience.
  2. A degree from an accredited College/University in the applicable field of services is required. If the individual's degree is not in the applicable field then four additional years of related experience is required.

Additional Provisions:

  1. Must be able to obtain a Position of Public Trust Clearance.
  2. Pass both a client mandated clearance process to include drug screening, criminal history check and credit check.
  3. All candidates must be a US Citizen only.
  4. Candidate must have lived in the United States for the past 5 years.
  5. Cannot have more than 6 months travel outside the United States within the last five years. Military Service excluded. (Exception does not include military family members.)
