Job description

  • This position involves the analysis of raw materials and finished products, HACCP monitoring, and support for the Packaging Department. It is a hands-on role working on the floor rather than in the lab. The technician will be responsible for swabbing the packaging line, testing raw materials to ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing, and lifting up to 25KG. This is a three-month contract from May to July, with no likely extension.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and conduct microbiological tests on samples collected by the QC team.
  • Read, organize, and enter data into the system.
  • Maintain, service, and calibrate lab equipment for successful microbiological evaluations.
  • Swab the packaging line and test raw material to ensure correct cleaning and sanitizing.
  • Monitor plant personnel practices and environment for adherence to GMPs, providing coaching as needed.
  • Monitor testing affecting product quality and food safety, such as oxygen and sanitizer station testing.
  • Collect and analyze product samples throughout the plant and equipment.
  • Conduct chemical, microbiological, and organoleptical analyses on raw materials, finished goods, and by-products.
  • Sample and grade raw materials and products based on documented parameters.
  • Perform data entry and resolve ingredient, packaging, or product QC Holds.
  • Lead the team and assist supervisors in resolving issues and controlling food safety and quality risks.
  • Complete QC shift reports summarizing deviations observed during a shift.
  • Communicate testing results and provide troubleshooting suggestions.
  • Investigate customer and consumer complaints.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, following OH&S, WCB, and Company regulations and procedures.
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Food Processing, Food Science, Microbiology, or a related science field.
  • Two years of experience in a food safety and quality role.
  • Previous laboratory or quality experience.
  • Understanding of microbiological, chemical, physical, and sensory properties of food products.
  • Knowledge of aseptic sampling, microbiological testing, and other food testing methods.
  • Ability to process and interpret microbiological results.
  • Focus on food quality, food safety, OH&S, and teamwork.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Candidates with overseas experience will be considered.
