The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic planning and operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. We provide open and non-discriminatory access to Alberta’s interconnected power grid and facilitate Alberta’s competitive wholesale electricity market. Reporting to the Director, Grid Planning & Operations Engineering, the Manager, System Projects leads a team of engineers to convert AESO’s Long Term Plan into actionable transmission system projects. Responsibilities include preparing and filing Needs Identification Document (NID) applications with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) and guiding projects through regulatory approval and delivery by transmission facility owners (TFOs).
This role requires close collaboration with TFOs and internal teams such as Grid Planning, Regulatory, Communications, Markets, and Customer Grid Access. Strong expertise in power flow analysis, system stability, and regulatory frameworks is essential for strategic decision-making and overcoming transmission system challenges.
