The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic planning and operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. We provide open and non-discriminatory access to Alberta’s interconnected power grid and facilitate Alberta’s competitive wholesale electricity market. Reporting to the Director, Grid Planning & Operations Engineering, the Manager, System Projects leads a team of engineers in converting AESO’s Long Term Plan into actionable transmission system projects. This includes preparing and filing Needs Identification Document (NID) applications with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) and guiding projects through regulatory approval and delivery by transmission facility owners (TFOs).
This role requires close collaboration with TFOs and internal teams such as Grid Planning, Regulatory, Communications, Markets, and Customer Grid Access to ensure project success. Strong expertise in power flow analysis, system stability, and regulatory frameworks is essential for strategic decisions and overcoming transmission system challenges.
