Job description

Our client is searching for a Senior Research and Policy Analyst to play a pivotal role in conducting in-depth research, analyzing data, and formulating policies that drive strategic objectives. This role focuses on both internal and external engagement, including aligning policies with governing documents, municipal policy, advocacy issues, and federal advocacy. This position reports directly to the CEO.

Your success is defined by your ability to :

  1. Develop and maintain a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks within the organization's governing documents and ensure alignment of policies accordingly.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to formulate and recommend policies, strategies, and solutions aligning with the strategic plan and governing documents.
  3. Prepare high-quality reports, presentations, and policy briefs summarizing research findings and recommendations for internal stakeholders regarding municipal policies and governing documents.
  4. Develop Agenda Item Summaries for Board of Directors meetings to support the Board and CEO.
  5. Conduct comprehensive research on municipal policy and advocacy issues, leveraging various methodologies and sources to gather relevant data and insights.
  6. Develop and implement a comprehensive policy and government relations strategy to advance the organization's interests with relevant government officials and policymakers at the municipal level.
  7. Analyze and interpret complex data sets related to municipal policies, identifying trends, patterns, and implications for the company and its stakeholders.
  8. Represent the organization in meetings with government officials, industry associations, and other stakeholders as required.
  9. Provide governance expertise and support to the CEO when required.
  10. Perform general administrative duties to support office operations.

Your strengths include :

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, such as law, public policy, economics, or political science (preferred).
  2. 3+ years of experience in policy development, law, government relations, or advocacy.
  3. Solid understanding of federal, provincial, and municipal government officials, relevant agencies, and industry associations.
  4. A broad understanding of the legal and regulatory framework.
  5. Excellent research, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise policy positions and government relations strategies.
  6. Strong capacity to manage ambiguity, multitask, and pivot in a fast-paced, changing environment.
