Part-Time

Temporary:
Contract hours, by course appointment, varied at 1 to 8 hours weekly

Job Responsibilities:

This position provides instructional woodworking classes at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre to children, youth, and/or adults in a studio wood shop environment. The successful applicant must be an independent, reliable individual able to work with minimal supervision and is expected to assist in developing curriculum. Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing, leading, and delivering woodworking classes and introductory woodworking classes to meet the needs of all participants registered in the program including children, youth, and adults.
  • Assisting with research and development of appropriate woodworking programming for beginner and practicing artists, ensuring that activities are safe, creative, and inclusive of all program participants.
  • Providing a positive learning and recreational experience for all participants.
  • Supporting Town department objectives and mandate.
Qualifications:
  • Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary program specializing in Furniture Design, Fine Woodworking, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated abilities and a strong knowledge of contemporary craft, fine woodworking, and/or design.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of artistic techniques, practices, and materials with one or more of the following interests/skills: furniture design, fine woodworking, carving, cabinetry.
  • Experience developing lesson and activity plans.
  • Previous teaching experience in an educational setting.
  • Strong organizational, planning, time management, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt instructional practices to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) is required for instructing children’s programs ages 4-12 years.
  • Emergency First Aid with CPR B.
  • Successful candidates who are new hires and/or who have not performed in this position previously will be required to provide, as a condition of employment, a satisfactory police vulnerable sector check at their own expense dated within the last 30 days.

Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC) is a unique multi-purpose recreation, arts, and culture facility located in Oakville, Ontario. QEPCCC offers many drop-in and registered recreational, cultural, and aquatic programs, including a studio drop-in program and memberships and an exhibitions program. Refer to the Recreation and Culture Programs page for a list of current culture programs and camps offered at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre.
