What to expect from this role?
  1. Manage files and practice management for Civil Litigation Matters.
  2. Assist with drafting standard pleadings, arrange for service and filing of court documents, and perform other duties as required.
  3. Handle file management tasks such as opening and closing files in a paperless environment, organizing materials, and preparing for questioning, mediations/JDR, and other attendances.
  4. Conduct conflict searches, assist with file management, and track tasks using TeamConnect.
  5. Independently manage assigned tasks, using effective time management and communication skills to advance litigation matters.
  6. Draft correspondence and documents for clients, third parties, and experts.
  7. Support lawyers with litigation management, including prioritizing tasks and scheduling meetings, questionings, mediations, etc.
  8. Assist with administrative tasks such as ordering supplies and vendor payments.
  9. Contribute to improving procedures and practices.
  10. Show initiative in litigation management, including prioritizing tasks, managing files, and scheduling.
What you bring to this role?
  • At least 3 years of experience as a legal assistant or equivalent in a civil litigation department, preferably in insurance defense or personal injury practice in Alberta.
  • Knowledge of Alberta Court rules, practice directions, and procedures.
  • Strong document management skills and ability to learn software like TeamConnect.
  • Proficiency with Outlook and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and execute tasks efficiently.
  • High ethical standards, integrity, and responsibility, with the ability to handle sensitive information.
  • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Graduates of Legal Assistant or Paralegal diploma programs are preferred.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable to change.
  • Ability to work in a paperless environment.

Proficiency in both English and French is required to serve internal and external customers across Canada.

Salary Range: $43,700 - $80,500
