Job description

Our client, an innovative national ‘Wholesale Distribution’ leader in the HVAC and mechanical sector, is experiencing significant growth. They are seeking a technical, driven, and personable Sales Engineer to support their expansion within the Commercial segment on Vancouver Island. As part of the commercial team, you will lead, expand, and manage the opportunity pipeline while maintaining existing client relationships.

The Sales Engineer will strengthen relationships with clients involved in the design and build of HVAC systems. Experience working with firms at all levels, from executives to engineers, is essential. The role requires creating and executing strategies to capitalize on all areas of commercial business within the client’s scope. Your strategic sales skills will be demonstrated through managing contracts, ensuring detailed product specifications, and formulating sales strategies and forecasts. Collaboration with multiple departments and stakeholders, both internally and externally, is vital.

This position involves managing a strategic book of business, conducting lunch & learn sessions, and engaging in networking, prospecting, and targeted outreach. Hosting meetings and sessions with consulting firms, mechanical contractors, and engineering firms are key responsibilities.

Position Overview :
  1. Proactively research, prospect, and target commercial project opportunities, working closely with decision-makers such as project engineers, developers, mechanical contractors, and consulting firms.
  2. Develop and maintain a detailed technical understanding of HVAC products.
  3. Assist the BC sales team with designing commercial HVAC solutions to generate mechanical design specifications for target projects.
  4. Prepare and deliver seminars on product application, benefits, and design to educate the consulting engineer community.
  5. Create sales and application tools to facilitate product specification.
  6. Collaborate with the sales team to introduce new product formats to the market.
  7. Support internal sales teams with technical issue resolution.
  8. Manage assigned accounts as the primary contact for pre- and post-sales inquiries.
  9. Support customers and external sales engineers across BC with system selection and design activities.
  10. Provide insights and feedback on market trends, opportunities, and challenges to leadership.
  11. Maintain positive customer relationships through regular communication of product information.
Requirements :
  1. Post-secondary education, preferably a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or a full-time two-year technical diploma.
  2. Knowledge of sales engineering concepts within the HVAC/mechanical space.
  3. Experience in sales or application engineering with a technical focus.
  4. Experience specifying mechanical products in the commercial sector.
  5. Proven ability in strategic client development initiatives.
  6. Ability to present recommendations effectively to decision-makers to maximize sales.
  7. Strong organizational, analytical, customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
