What is the opportunity?

The Senior Manager, Financial Control role is a pivotal strategic and enablement function serving as the Bank’s ‘second line of defense’. As a key member of the Personal Banking Financial Control team, the senior manager will provide accounting advisory for new products and initiatives, implement effective processes, and ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information in RBC’s results. The role primarily focuses on Cards and Loyalty, Distribution, and Operations lines of business.

What you will do?

  1. Accounting advisory - Assess the accounting implications of new initiatives to enable business partners to make informed decisions. Implement new accounting policies in consultation with the Accounting Policy Group.
  2. Financial reporting - Review quarterly financial disclosures and conduct variance analysis. Investigate abnormalities in financial results.
  3. Establishing the financial infrastructure for Personal Banking products - Assess financial risks and establish processes to ensure complete and accurate financial reporting, with proper risk management.
  4. Monitoring the Financial Control environment - Review Standard of Documentation (SOD), follow up on queries, and update SOX controls.
  5. Data strategy and other projects - Lead data strategy projects and ad hoc initiatives to enhance data transparency and accuracy for financial reporting and business analysis.
  6. Process transformation - Identify opportunities to automate and streamline processes and assist in their implementation.
  7. Ad-hoc projects - Participate in projects such as policy implementation and SOX deficiency rectification.
  8. What do you need to succeed?

    Must-have

  • CPA, CA or equivalent; skills associated with accounting designations are essential.
  • 7+ years of experience, preferably in financial institutions.
  • Strong IFRS knowledge.
  • Knowledge of retail banking products or willingness to develop this knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder collaboration.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent Excel and presentation skills.

Nice-to-have

  • Knowledge of RBC financial systems.
