Responsibilities
- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Ensure safety precautions are followed in the assigned area; report unsafe incidents or concerns to management, including defective machinery or equipment, to prevent accidents and harm. Follow established safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely, document temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as necessary.
- Deliver catering to various hospital locations, including pick-up of dirty dishes for ware washing.
- Observe meal serving time limits and maintain proper food temperatures.
- Assist Cooks in preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits; follow instructions for simple foods such as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils as per procedures.
- Assist with daily prep tasks according to the Prep List.
- Properly store and label dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
- Check and document temperatures and/or taste of food items, ensuring compliance with HACCP guidelines; take corrective actions for unsatisfactory quality and document accordingly. Rotate stock and monitor expiry dates to ensure food integrity.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, place settings, utensils, chafing dishes, flowers, and other customer requests.
- Follow established policies regarding quality assurance, safety, environment, and infection control.
- Participate in facility meetings and in-service education programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Complete or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Hold a valid Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
- Be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Capability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
