What is the opportunity?

The Strategic Execution team is looking for a Director, Project Management to join the team. You will be accountable to ensure that RBC has a solid framework for efficient and timeline delivery of projects supporting enterprise and business unit objectives while mitigating operational and financial risks. Leading a team of Senior Project Managers and reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Execution, this role will partner with project owners and stakeholders across RBC to identify project activities, manage stakeholder relationships and activate execution plans. This role requires a dynamic individual with a high degree of project management expertise who can manage cross-functional workflows, support strategic objectives and ensure projects are delivered within the approved scope, schedule and budget while minimizing disruption to business partners and mitigating risks.

As part of the Risk Reduction and Strategic Execution group under the RBC Chief Controls office, the Strategic Execution team has a mandate to develop and implement a proactive, standardized, scalable program and project management discipline that drives consistency in delivery of strategic objectives, while ensuring execution of RBC enterprise (Board, CoE and Group Executive) and cross-functional business programs and projects. Working within a high-performance area of the bank, the team provides opportunities for skill development, career advancement, and the chance to work on the bank’s most ambitious initiatives.

What will you do?

  • Provide project management expertise and direction to support project planning and execution. This includes but is not limited to strategic planning, stakeholder management, identification of critical activities and alignment with any communication and change management plans.
  • Influence and align project outcomes to optimize the benefits and reduce the risks throughout the project.
  • Accountable for the delivery of all end-to-end project plan activities.
  • Manage all project controls to ensure effective governance including project documentation.
  • Lead integration of project workstreams, driving alignment across the project team.
  • Develop and manage the detailed schedule, identify early warning indicators, identify potential risks and issues, and develop mitigation strategies in consultation with Global Transformation Team senior leadership.
  • Establish and monitor project milestones and provide timely project executive summaries, as well as appropriate internal management reporting, metrics, and key information.
  • Prepare project material and, as required, support internal project approval requirements.

  • Ability to leverage the value in internal teams to develop better solutions and achieve a cross-functional mindset.
  • Ability to accept and successfully execute change in a fast-paced, deadline-sensitive environment while supporting project team through the process and keep them focused on business priorities.
  • Ability to deal with conflict management involving senior management, internal customers and other colleagues.

Must-have

  • University Degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of project management experience with at least 3 years in a senior capacity and experience with large-scale projects and initiatives.
  • PMP certification or equivalent.
  • Proficient in MS Suites including MS Project.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills including executive interaction and communications
  • Strong strategic and financial business acumen and strong risk and cost control mindset
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and consultation skills, analytical and problem-solving skills

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with Iterative Waterfall, Agile, Kanban delivery methodologies
  • Experience in building, developing and leading teams of professionals throughout project life cycle
  • Change Management designation or experience with change management processes
