WHAT’S THE JOB?

Based in a world class Horizon North camp facility, the regular shift for this position is 20 days on and 10 days off, with 11-hour workdays. Transportation is provided to site from a pickup point in Edmonton.

The Baker/Breakfast Cook is responsible for delighting our clients by preparing and cooking breakfast and baked goods to the highest standards of Horizon North.

This position is safety sensitive and requires drug, alcohol and fit to work testing as a condition of employment.

Your work will include:

  1. Preparing and baking goods from scratch
  2. Restocking pastry shelves and maintaining a sufficient and fresh supply of baked goods
  3. Creating and following menus to ensure quality of baked goods and desserts
  4. Wrapping and dating all baked goods in accordance with production schedule
  5. Ensuring consistent quality standard in overall food preparation as per clients’ requirements including consideration to special dietary constraints
  6. Ensuring proper equipment operation, safety and sanitation in the kitchen
  7. Complying with food hygiene regulations in accordance with Food Safety Act
  8. Supervising night shift employees; providing mentorship and training

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  1. Interprovincial Red Seal Certification or some culinary education leading to Red Seal
  2. Required: FoodSafe Level I is minimum. SafeCheck advanced food safety certification or HACCP certification is an asset.
  3. Minimum 3 years’ cooking and baking experience in a similar or hotel/institutional environment
  4. Proven experience preparing baked goods for large number of guests
  5. Prior supervisory experience
  6. Successful candidates MUST obtain a mark of 80% or higher on the mandatory WHMIS test (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).
