Job Description

We are expanding our team with new opportunities available for Geotechnical Engineers and Civil Engineers. We are seeking highly motivated candidates to fill 2 open positions based in Calgary, AB, with an expected start date as soon as possible (Q2 2025).

The ideal candidate will be an Intermediate Engineer with at least 5 years of professional experience, preferably in the Oil & Gas industry, specifically Oil Sands Mining. The role is based in Calgary, AB, primarily in a downtown office with options for part-time remote work. The candidate will collaborate with our team of mining professionals and should have experience in mine waste and tailings design, soil and rock mechanics, slope stability, seepage analysis, and large-scale mining construction features such as tailings dams, containment structures, roads, pipelines, waste storage, ore stockpiles, and reclamation. Proficiency in mining software (MineScape, MineSight, AutoCAD, Geo-Slope), data analysis, communication, and report writing is required.

Our client is a major oil & gas company, and the successful candidate will work on projects supporting the Geotechnical Engineering manager. Major Responsibilities

  1. Provide geotechnical engineering support for mine waste and tailings management projects.
  2. Conduct engineering data analyses and design work from project scoping through detailed engineering and construction phases.
  3. Potential travel to mine sites for geotechnical investigations, instrument installation, and construction quality assurance.
  4. Assist in planning and supervising geotechnical subsurface investigations.
  5. Contribute to writing geotechnical reports and technical communications.
  6. Support senior geotechnical engineers and managers.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (geotechnical, civil, or related field).
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T) with APEGA.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience, with preference for Oil & Gas (Oil Sands) experience in large civil earthworks, mining-related projects, including construction, performance monitoring, QA, inspection, and testing.
  • Experience in field and environmental investigations for gas or oil exploration and development projects.
  • Proficiency in engineering software (Geo-Slope, MineScape, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office).
  • Strong skills in data interpretation, analysis, and correlation.
  • Ability to work independently and in small teams, fostering effective relationships.
  • Oil Sands operations experience is an asset.
