Arcadis is looking for a talented and committed Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Resilience Team.

In this role, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for planning and implementation of geotechnical projects. You will work collaboratively with engineers and environmental scientists to identify and mitigate potential hazards, ensuring that environmental impacts are minimized. Your oversight will extend to design and construction activities, guaranteeing that they align with the overarching management objectives of each project.

Your responsibilities will involve planning, supervising and executing comprehensive geotechnical investigations, which include logging, sampling, and evaluating soil, bedrock, and groundwater conditions. You will also conduct field and laboratory tests on soil and rock samples, install geotechnical instrumentation, monitor data, and interpret findings to inform project decisions. The preparation of detailed geotechnical reports, including safety reviews, slope stability and condition assessments, will be a critical part of your role.

Effective risk management will be essential, as you will design and plan excavation methods, assess risks related to slope instability and erosion, and produce technical drawings and models. Your oversight will include visual inspections and field testing to ensure compliance with construction drawings and specifications. You will manage project budgets and schedules while coordinating team efforts, contributing to technical and cost proposals, and collaborating with environmental scientists to promote sustainable practices and compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards.

To excel in this position, you should demonstrate a commitment to health and safety, possess strong attention to detail, and showcase excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and interpersonal abilities will be vital, as will your initiative and capability to thrive in a diverse team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, is important, along with a willingness to balance fieldwork (30%) and desktop tasks (70%).

Additional responsibilities will include :

  • Performing complex technical work and providing senior reviews, offering guidance and mentoring to engineers on smaller projects, managing budgets, and overseeing project scope and workload.
  • Building effective relationships with Project Directors, Managers, and clients will be essential for ensuring smooth communication and issue resolution.
  • Leading and providing direction to team members, fostering their professional development.

Qualification and Experience :

Candidates should hold :

  • 12+ years experience in geotechnical engineering
  • B.Sc. or Master's degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering, with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering, and have over eight years of experience in the field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing in Alberta, Ontario, or BC and eligibility for transfer to other areas.
  • Valid driver's license is required, along with a readiness to travel to remote sites

The salary range for this position is $95,000-178,000. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
