Qualifications

Overview

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Calgary, Alberta.

Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and leadership on projects and for staff, including conducting technical reviews of calculations and analyses, as well as performing technical analyses where appropriate;
  • Provide guidance, and where necessary, support in coordination, preparation of cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, client reports, progress reports, project scheduling / resourcing, and meeting deadlines and budgets on projects;
  • Scoping projects and assisting in the preparation of proposals;
  • Supporting mentoring, coaching and training of staff;
  • Work with the Branch Manager in the development of new business opportunities;
  • Establishing, developing, promoting, and maintaining relationships with clients;
  • Active participation in the field on a project-specific basis as dictated by the needs of the project to meet client expectations and project objectives; and,
  • Manage projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary program in Civil or Geological Engineering;
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in the Geotechnical or Geological Engineering field. Local Canadian experience is strongly preferred;
  • Class 5 Drivers license;
  • Comfortable driving mid to full-sized pickup trucks in urban, rural, and construction environments;
  • Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including local and remote construction sites;
  • Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required; and,
  • Licensed P.Eng. with APEGA or EGBC.
  • Graduate Degree (Masters or higher) preferred;
  • Geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing); and,
  • Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team in various environments.

Additional Information

  • Criminal Record Check may be conducted;
  • Drug and alcohol testing may be required prior to accessing client sites; and,
  • 3 Year Driver's Abstract and a Claims Experience Letterwill be requested.
