POSITION OVERVIEW

Drive operational excellence and innovation through advanced analytics, continuous improvement, and robust data management. This role offers the opportunity to contribute across various domains while focusing on areas that align with personal strengths, development goals, and organizational needs. Empowered to lead, make decisions, solve problems, and deliver results, it enhances BDC Capital's operational efficiency, strategic decision-making, and overall business performance. Reporting to the Director of Operations Support, this position is part of the BDC Capital Strategy & Operations team.

A Senior Analyst in the BDC Capital Operations team leads complex data analysis and provides strategic insights, leveraging extensive technical and industry expertise. Senior Analysts take on more responsibility and leadership within the team. They are respected presenters, capable of communicating effectively to BDC Capital leadership. Senior Analysts drive larger projects to successful conclusions, addressing major operational problems with a continuous improvement mindset. Additionally, they support strategic projects, such as our roadmap to becoming a data-driven venture capital firm, formulating recommendations and influencing stakeholders within BDC Capital to gain their support. Senior Analysts challenge priorities and resource allocation within the team, leading and mentoring others to contribute to their growth outside the formal HR structure. Their advanced technical skills and extensive experience enable them to manage complex tasks requiring strategic thinking. Senior Analysts have a high level of mastery of tools and data, utilizing advanced data analysis techniques to provide strategic insights.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

ADVANCED ANALYTICS

Strategic Insights and Reporting: Produce comprehensive analyses, strategic insights, reports, and forecasts to support executive decision-making. Develop quarterly decks for the BDC board, internal scorecards, regular dashboards on portfolio performance, productivity KPIs, onboarding materials, and holding period analysis

Thought Leadership: Contribute to producing the annual VC landscape reports and other publications that analyze market trends, investment patterns, and emerging opportunities, offering strategic insights for stakeholders

Corporate Planning: Participate in the corporate planning process at BDC Capital, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and organizational goals. This involves coordinating with the investment teams to develop comprehensive plans, setting performance targets, and monitoring progress

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

Drive BDC Capital to become a leading data-driven VC firm: Leverage AI and data analytics to enhance investment strategies, streamline operations, and foster a culture of innovation, positioning BDC Capital as a leader in the venture capital industry

Process Optimization and Technology Integration: Propose improvements in operational processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Leverage technology tools and platforms to streamline operations and enhance data management capabilities. Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies

Optimize Systems Usage: Ensure optimal usage of Affinity CRM and iLEVEL portfolio monitoring systems. Troubleshoot configuration issues, design web portals and reports, and maintain data integrity

IT Deployment: Support IT deployments by gathering business requirements, communicating with IT teams, collaborating in the design phase, testing changes, and ensuring successful deployment to our user base

DATA MANAGEMENT

Data Governance: Maintain data catalog, glossary, lineage of user-defined fields and calculations to eliminate redundant fields and ensure optimal field management. Establish and enforce guidelines for naming conventions, data types, and field purposes. Design workflows for the creation and approval of new fields to prevent redundancy and maintain consistency

Data Quality: Implement comprehensive error-checking, automated validations, and reconciliations in iLEVEL and Affinity CRM. Troubleshoot and resolve data and configuration issues. Deploy new tools for enhancing data quality

Ensuring Seamless Data Flows: Ensure efficient population of iLEVEL by managing ETL processes and overseeing monthly and quarterly data collection using templates and loader files from internal and external sources. Deploy APIs to efficiently import/export data. Allow users to consume data via web portals, reports, and other tools

Funds Quarterly Data Collection: Drive the data collection process for our funds portfolio, spanning asset, financial, and KPI data. Ensure seamless collaboration with third-party firms, involving rigorous review and approval processes to ensure the highest quality data in iLEVEL for BDC Capital

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Commerce, STEM, or a related field

  • Master’s degree or professional designation completed or in progress: CFA, CPA, or equivalent

  • 4-7 years of experience in a financial institution, management consulting firm, investment firm, or equivalent

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES

  • Outstanding dynamism, curiosity, and motivation: Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment and drive continuous improvement

  • Advanced financial and analytical skills: Proficiency in analyzing financial data, providing strategic insights, and utilizing tools like Power BI, Power Query, and Python

  • Technical proficiency: Mastery of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data management systems, with strong data visualization skills

  • Prioritization and problem-solving abilities: Capable of managing multiple priorities, troubleshooting issues, and implementing effective solutions

  • Knowledge of VC & PE industry and tech ecosystem: Understanding of venture capital, private equity, and technology sectors

  • Bilingual communication skills: Comfortable in English and French, both written and spoken
