The Nunavut Housing Corporation is an agency of the Government of Nunavut which serves the housing needs of one of the fastest growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, co-ordinate, and administer housing programs in order to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut. NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, (www.igluliuqatigiingniq.ca) which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030.

Reporting to the Senior Finance Officer - Supervisory, the Senior Finance Clerk is responsible for delivering a range of financial services, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and revenue processing. This involves accurate data entry, verification, reconciliation, investigation, correction, and reporting, as well as providing administrative support and client advice. By ensuring the timely and accurate processing of financial records in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures, the Senior Finance Clerk supports effective departmental operations, contributes to sound financial decision-making, promotes compliance, and helps maintain the professionalism and reliability of financial services.

Key Responsibilities Of The Successful Candidate Will Also Include

  • Processes accounts payable/receivable and other financial transactions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely issue resolution.
  • Enters and verifies financial data in systems, reconciles general ledger accounts, and corrects discrepancies.
  • Provides guidance on financial systems, policies, and procedures; responds to inquiries and supports issue resolution.
  • Prepares and reviews financial documents, maintains control records, and manages files in line with records policies.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position are typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma, along with one (1) year of relevant finance experience in a computerized environment. Experience in delivering client services is also required.

This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
