Reporting to the Program Coordinator or designate, the Pediatric Mental Health Worker contributes to providing client-centered and family-focused care for children and youth hospitalized with mental health and/or substance use concerns. Responsibilities include completing patient assessments, providing related counselling, and reporting clients' conditions, including reactions to medications and activity monitoring. The worker observes the patient/client's environment and changes in baseline behaviors and moods to ensure safety. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), or Child and Youth Counsellor (CYC), the Pediatric Mental Health Worker promotes a safe, healthy, and non-threatening environment that instills dignity and self-respect. The role also involves motivating, assisting, and instructing clients with activities of daily living.
Graduation from a recognized degree program in Social Science plus one year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
