Job description

Calling all experienced Accountants and / or Controllers in the Newmarket area! Our client is an interprovincial, locally respected contractor with 50 years of proven success and stability! This team is focused on high-profile institutional, commercial, and industrial construction projects and is currently looking for a Controller with 8+ years of finance experience to join their team! This position is a full-time, in-house role without the option for remote or hybrid at this time.

Requirements :

• CPA is required
• Accounting degree and / or diploma from an accredited institution strongly preferred
• Minimum of 8+ years’ experience in an Accounting / Controller position
• Intermediate Level of Excel required
• Jonas Software experience is a bonus (Willing to train)
• Strong analytical and organizational skills

Responsibilities :

• Plan, organize & direct the period close process including preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Ensure compliance with established internal controls, including approval requirements with a keen eye toward cost control and accuracy
• Own and maintain process & controls documentation, including financial policies
• Ensure integrity of financial data and systems
• Ensure management of general ledger
• Participation in annual audit
• Complete and review month-end reconciliations and budget variance analyses
• Manage cash flow
• Participate in the creation of new processes to streamline cross-functional workloads and find opportunities to enhance efficiencies with existing processes
• Provide financial recommendations & ideas when new business initiatives are proposed

Assist as needed with :

• General reporting
• Data Entry
• Payroll
• Bank reconciliations
• Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable
