Job description

Job Description

You’re the kind of person who views risk not as a red flag, but as a chance to make things better. You have a knack for uncovering insights, streamlining processes, connecting the dots others might miss, and making things better. Spot an area for improvement? You’re already thinking of an improved, more effective way to tackle it. So, it’s true: you sweat the small stuff, so it doesn’t become big stuff, and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

As our Centre Operations Controls and Risk Analyst, you’ll play a key role in shaping how AMA operates across our province-wide Retail Centres. You’ll assess and strengthen internal controls, minimize risk, and bring consistency to the way we deliver exceptional service to our members. If you’re a relationship-builder, a strategic thinker, and someone who finds clarity in complexity—this is the perfect fit for you.

WHAT MOVES YOU

  • You’re driven by continuous improvement and love finding better, more efficient ways to work.
  • You have a curious mind and a sharp eye for detail, always looking to uncover what others might miss.
  • You enjoy building strong relationships and working collaboratively to create real, lasting change.
  • You’re confident navigating complexity and turning it into clear, actionable insights.
  • You take pride in your integrity, your initiative, and your ability to make an impact.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Conduct regular and recurring indepth, on-site reviews of AMA Retail Centres to assess the effectiveness of internal controls—financial, inventory, sales, and operational processes—and ensure compliance with corporate policies. This will include regular travel to AMA centres.
  • Collaborate with Finance and other internal partners to evaluate risks related to control deficiencies and assist in the design and implementation of controls to mitigate those risks.
  • Provide actionable recommendations based on your findings, ensuring that improvements are implemented consistently across all centres.
  • Manage the planning, scheduling, and execution of centre reviews, assessing compliance with policy and evaluating operational efficiency, identifying opportunities to apply best practices across other centres.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, including management, risk, compliance, finance, and internal audit, to build practical solutions and drive change, leveraging LEAN methodologies to streamline operations, reduce waste, and improve service delivery.
  • Deliver training sessions to centre employees on fraud detection, prevention, and internal controls as it relates to financial risks. Collaborating with management on risk treatment plans, ensuring management awareness of recommendations made for any centre.
  • Ensure operational policies and procedures are current, consistent, and easily accessible to staff across all locations.
  • Develop and maintain strong, trusting relationships with leaders at all levels to help embed a culture of proactive risk management and continuous improvement.

WHAT YOU’VE DONE

  • You have a post-secondary degree in Business or a related field.
  • You bring at least 5 years of experience in finance or operational roles (comparable education may be considered in lieu of experience).
  • You have strong financial controls experience and a knack for problem solving.
  • You’re fluent in risk management concepts and have a compliance-first mindset.
  • You’ve got a solid understanding of LEAN principles and know how to turn theory into action.
  • You’re great with details, but never lose sight of the big picture.

WHAT YOU’LL GET

  • Competitive salary.
  • Flexible benefits with 5 different packages to select, ranging from $1000 - $3000 health and wellness spending accounts.
  • Outstanding employer-paid Retirement Savings Plan (5% AMA contribution + 5% AMA matching)
  • Great AMA discounts like 50% off memberships, driver education programs, and registry services.
  • Unlimited learning opportunities, including full Udemy access and dedicated learning time for personal development.
  • Paid time off, including 3 weeks of vacation, Me-Day, and Volunteer Day. Also, the flexibility to purchase 1 or 2 weeks’ vacation time spread across multiple pay periods.
