Background Information:
- The Patients Before Paperwork (Pb4P) initiative is a comprehensive program aimed at reducing the administrative burden on Primary Care Providers in Ontario through the use of digital tools and processes. This initiative supports both new and existing digital health projects that work together to minimize traditional paper-based workflows, such as faxing referrals and prescriptions, writing clinical notes and manually completing forms.
- The purpose of this request is to acquire a resource to work alongside existing Leads, User Experience Design (UX) and Customer Experience (CX), to consult with product teams, clinical leads and target users to gather in-depth qualitative and quantitative insights that can be used to drive intuitive and efficient product design experiences that help ease the burden on providers.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Lead, Experience Design and Senior Manager, Experience Design (UX) to understand strategic direction and priorities
- Consult with business, technical, CX team, clinical leads and users to gain a deep understanding of the user needs, the issues to solve, the existing workflows, and the technical constraints
- Communicate with - and provide guidance to - internal teams, external partners and vendors on UX deliverables
- Perform heuristic evaluations of existing products to determine opportunities and gaps
- Conceive, plan and conduct iterative UX research (ex: user interviews, focus groups, surveys) and perform thematic analysis to translate user feedback into actionable insights and prioritized recommendations
- Leverage user data and user-centred design to build out product taxonomies, IA, sitemaps, user flows, UI content, customer journey maps, wireframes, prototypes and mockups
- Product Iterate on design and functionality by performing usability testing to ensure the delivery of effective, user-friendly experiences and visually appealing interfaces for clinical and patient-facing web sites and applications
- Conduct iterative design reviews with product teams and partners for feedback and clarity
- Perform end-to-end validation of screens to ensure compliance with UX/UI specifications and AODA (WCAG Level AA) guidelines and work with business, technical teams and vendors to address defects
- Provide regular status updates to the product team, UX Lead, and Senior Manager, Experience Design (UX) on progress and blockers
- Other duties as assigned by management
Desired Skills:
- A professional accreditation or certification in User Experience (UX)
- Experience working on complex programs with multiple workstreams
- Extensive experience as a UX designer, designing complex digital products and services across various devices and screen resolutions
- Relevant experience in planning and recruiting for user research studies, including managing screeners, agreements and honorariums
- Ability to collaborate with business teams to gather requirements and translate them into intuitive, user-centric solutions
- Experience in translating user insights into sitemaps, user flows, user journey maps, concepts/wireframes, mock-ups and prototypes
- Experience with designing AODA (WCAG Level AA) compliant experiences, including performing AODA audits/testing
- Expertise consulting on UX and UI best practices, AODA and inclusive design
- Experience working with technical teams to understand the limitations and appropriate use of web development technologies and clearly communicate design decisions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to devise simple, efficient solutions
- A team player with a reputation for meeting deadlines, managing competing priorities and maintaining client relationships
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to advocate for UX research and collaborate with partners at all levels and clearly and effectively communicate design processes, ideas and solutions to team members
- Excellent knowledge of Adobe XD and/or Figma design and prototyping tools
- Experience with digital whiteboarding tools such as Mural, Miro and/or Figjam
- Experience working in a health care setting and/or with digital health solutions
- Experience working in the public sector

- The resource will comply with Ontario Health policies and procedures.
- Ontario Health assets including laptops and related equipment cannot be removed from the province of Ontario without prior written approval from Ontario Health.
- Assignment Type: This position is currently hybrid. The resource under this request will be required to work onsite as per Ontario Health's requests.
