Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director, Supply Management, the Manager, Corporate Services is responsible for the provision, maintenance, repair, and replacement of furniture and equipment for over 130 schools, learning centres, and other education programs within the Surrey School District. This role involves managing an annual department budget of approximately $2 million and planning for new schools and school additions.

The Manager, Corporate Services collaboratives with school administration, Education Services, Assistant Superintendents, and suppliers to ensure that classroom furniture and equipment meet pedagogical, curriculum, safety, and comfort requirements to support student success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in managing district and school equipment needs, including asset management strategies for key furniture and equipment.
  • Liaise with school principals, supervisors, account coordinators, administrative department heads, and the Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction Group regarding new construction and school openings.
  • Develop and maintain an asset management strategy and determine whether equipment scheduled for repair should be replaced.
  • Establish annual and ongoing budgetary priorities for equipment replacement and expansion, and manage approved budgets in consultation with school principals and district administrators.
  • Coordinate with component managers on capital equipment planning and prepare equipment components for annual budget submissions.
  • Review purchase order submissions and monitor equipment purchases for cost-effectiveness and funding availability.
  • Manage and oversee the repairs and preventive maintenance program of all furniture and equipment for schools and district offices, excluding computer equipment and rolling equipment assigned to other departments, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal functionality.
  • Develop specifications and standards for all equipment within Corporate Services; research and evaluate products and services to confirm suitability and consider alternatives when beneficial.
  • Manage the preparation, coordination, presentation, and substitution of annual operating and specific capital equipment budgets for approval.
  • Lead and oversee staff by directing daily operations, setting performance expectations, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professionalism. Responsible for hiring recommendations performance management and administrative approvals.
  • Stay current with market conditions and technology through trade shows, seminars, and ongoing research.
  • Support the development and revision of Board policies and regulations.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Management, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, with a focus on business, financial, and supply chain management. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong computer skills, proficiency with spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Office Suite), and demonstrated ability to use various financial software packages and databases to perform financial analyses and develop reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate and build trust with a variety of key partners.
  • Commitment to inclusion and belonging and building a caring and respectful workplace.
  • Demonstrated ability to summarize and present complex financial data in an organized and concise manner with a strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to exercise tact and diplomacy, confidentiality, and conflict resolution skills

  • Leadership experience with the ability to motivate and develop a team through mentorship and coaching.
  • Acts with accountability, responsibility and transparency in the use of public funds
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high-volume work environment and manage competing priorities and demands.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of finance, logistics, supplier relations, people management, asset valuation, market analysis, inventory management, forecasting, risk management, and departmental responsibilities.

The salary range for this position is $101,086 to $126,357 per year with comprehensive benefits package and Municipal Pension.

Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons. The midpoint of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.
