ABOUT MTRL is a furniture design studio comprised of five people focused on creating bespoke commercial furniture that reinforce our clients’ brands within their office. Furniture we design and manufacture can be found in the headquarters of Google, Apple, Netflix, Adobe, LinkedIn, Tik Tok and many others.

SUMMARY The Fulfillment Manager plays an active part in creating a Lead-by-example culture at MTRL by actively participating in daily operations. The Fulfillment Manager will play a hands-on role in the production, assembly, shipping, and installation of MTRL products in addition to leading the team. While overseeing the operation is critical, this position requires active participation in day-to-day tasks, particularly when meeting tight deadlines, restricted budgets or handling high-priority projects. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, adaptable, and willing to lead by example in both strategic and physical tasks.

Key responsibilities include : Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure incoming shipments are thoroughly inspected for damage, defects, or discrepancies before signing. Document and report any issues immediately to vendors and relevant internal team members. Act as the primary point of contact for resolving shipping related issues, including filing claims, coordinating replacements, and ensuring timely resolutions.
  • Assume responsibility for the condition of received and shipped products. Ensure all shipments are properly packaged to prevent damage in transit and that outgoing deliveries meet quality standards and quantities outlined on the customer’s PO.
  • Guarantee proper quantity, quality and finish as shown in drawings of received goods, prebuilt products, outgoing shipments and onsite installations. Jointly with the rest of the team, help ensure customer facing deliverables meet the high standards of quality that MTRL is known for.
  • Arrange and manage logistics of parts and products to / from vendor / customer warehouse locations as well as customer jobsites.
  • Oversee and actively contribute to the pre-assembly of furniture in the warehouse, working alongside skilled installers and day laborers. Tasks may include craftsman type labor.
  • Coordinate, source and package hardware packs for MTRL products.
  • Organize and execute on time shipments to customer warehouses and jobsites.
  • Oversee and assist in the installation of products at job sites primarily in California, with occasional out-of-state installations.
  • Coordinate photography efforts of prebuilt furniture.
  • Communicate regularly with Sr. Operations Manager on production scheduling, project workload, and project progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of all in-house inventory. Regularly audit inventory levels to ensure accuracy and prevent shortages or overstocking. Coordinate with vendors to reorder materials to maintain stock levels.
  • Oversee the layout and organization of the warehouse to maximize space efficiency and ensure quick access to inventory. Implement systems for labeling and categorizing materials and products.
  • Work with the rest of the MTRL team on continuous improvement initiatives.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from accredited college or university, or equivalent experience, required, plus at least 5 years equivalent related experience and / or training with contract office furniture systems or custom furniture systems; previous management experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education and practical experience. Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software required, preferably MS Office programs.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to fluently speak and understand English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical procedures, and / or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and general business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have a current valid California driver’s license, and a current registered operable vehicle and proof of insurance as required by state law.

The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 75 pounds with assistance or equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Experience shipping custom furniture, FF&E, or high-value items
  • Familiarity with material handling and warehouse safety best practices
  • Experience developing or following inventory control systems
  • Experience with site delivery and installation coordination

WORK ENVIRONMENT The position is based in a warehouse setting with frequent movement, lifting, and use of material handling equipment. Occasional exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures is expected. The role requires a high degree of physical activity and time sensitivity.
