Job description

American Tall is a thriving e-commerce brand, dedicated to producing world-class quality clothing for tall men, and women, up to 7’1. Founded by a father and son duo in 2015, the business has grown to a level that seemed almost unimaginable just a few years ago and is now a leading brand in the tall community. The growth can be attributed to the excellent leadership team and family values that drive the business – respect, passion, support, and empowerment.

We believe the best ideas come from a diverse group of people. This is a special opportunity to join an innovative business with tremendous upside, and a work culture built on the foundation of respect, inclusiveness, and continued learning.

We are seeking an E-Commerce Merchandising Manager with a deep understanding of apparel fabrics, silhouettes, styling, and fit, to join our team. Reporting to the Senior E-Commerce Manager, this role will own digital merchandising strategy and product storytelling on the online store from end to end, optimizing the customer journey to align with the brand’s vision and business goals. This role requires strong collaboration across Merchandising, Design, Creative, and Marketing teams to enhance product presentation, curation, and customer education, ensuring the website experience reflects the same intentionality as an in-store environment. Beyond execution, this individual must be strategic and highly proactive, identifying opportunities for site optimization, product discoverability, and performance-driven merchandising to improve key e-commerce metrics.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Digital Merchandising & Product Strategy
  • Develop and execute site merchandising strategies that optimize navigation, sorting, filters, and product placement to enhance customer engagement and sales.
  • Partner with Merchandising & Design teams to ensure the online presentation of products reflects assortment strategy, styling intent, and brand storytelling.
  • Implement data-driven product placement strategies, prioritizing high-converting products and adjusting merchandising approaches based on performance insights.
  • Customer Education & Product Storytelling
  • Own the visual and narrative storytelling at every major site touchpoint, including PLPs (collection pages) and PDPs (product pages), ensuring customers understand fit, fabrics, styling, and craftsmanship and make the most informed purchasing decisions.
  • Ensure the website provides an elevated digital retail experience, emulating the depth of education and engagement found in a high-end, brick-and-mortar store.
  • Performance Monitoring & Site Optimization
  • Leverage Google Analytics, Shopify Analytics, and other data tools to monitor site KPIs, including add-to-cart rates, conversion rates, bounce rates, AOV, and engagement metrics.
  • Use data insights to refine merchandising tactics, continuously optimizing product visibility and storytelling for better performance.
  • Create and execute A/B testing strategies to improve merchandising placements, product recommendations, and customer interactions.
  • Collaborate with the Senior E-Commerce Manager to build a portfolio of custom reports focused on site performance and merchandising KPIs to inform future decisions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Align merchandising strategies with Marketing campaigns, seasonal initiatives, and promotions, ensuring the right products are featured within the appropriate stories.
  • Work closely with the Creative team to coordinate visual merchandising assets, landing pages, and storytelling content.
  • Manage the relationship between the e-commerce team and the product merchandising & design teams, developing an extremely strong understanding of the assortment, including the key items, collections and stories that the product teams want to tell (then bringing those stories to life on the site).
Experience, Education and Designations
  • Bachelor’s degree in fashion, merchandising, marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in digital merchandising, e-commerce, or a related field, ideally within fashion, apparel, or lifestyle brands.
  • Strong creative instincts and an eye for visual storytelling, with a deep appreciation for apparel fabrics, silhouettes, fit, and styling.
  • Proficiency in Shopify or similar e-commerce platforms, with experience executing merchandising strategies.
  • Analytical mindset, with hands-on experience using Google Analytics, Shopify Analytics, or similar tools to track performance and optimize digital merchandising.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute independently while proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams.
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
  • A creative storyteller who understands how to connect product features with customer needs and aspirations.
  • A data-driven thinker who leverages analytics to refine site merchandising, customer experience, and conversion strategies.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, able to prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines.
  • Highly collaborative team player, comfortable working across departments to align priorities and strategies.
  • Passionate about enhancing customer education and creating an engaging, best-in-class e-commerce shopping experience.
