Responsibilities

• Respond to incidents such as environmental spills and hazardous events.
• Transport, load, and unload hazardous wastes.
• Operate vacuum trucks, box trucks, and related equipment.
• Collaborate with police, fire, EMS, Environment Canada, and other stakeholders.
• Provide safety reporting and documentation.
• Follow health and safety policies and procedures.
• Participate in job-specific training and safety programs.
• Work both indoors and outdoors as required.
• Adhere to OHSA and related acts.
• Promote a safe work environment and report hazards.

Job description

GFL Environmental is looking for full-time DZ Operators to support our Emergency Response Unit out of Hamilton, ON! The driver will transport, remove, deliver, and collect various liquid and solid hazardous wastes from various customer sites. The successful candidate will be required to load and unload trucks. Will also have the ability to operate a variety of truck and equipment including vacuum trucks, box trucks, and any other equipment that fits their license on site if necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• The Emergency Response Operator will respond to various incidents such as:
• Environmental and Industrial spills
• Clandestine laboratory decommissioning
• Highway incidents involving tractor trailers, accidents, and chemical leaks
• Train derailments involving hazardous chemicals, fires, and site safety planning.
• Marine operations mostly regarding fuel spills into open bodies of water. Involving boom deployment and boat operations.
• Weather event responses involving wind/ice storms, forest fires, and flooding.
• Chemical assessments and advisory services.
• Working alongside police, fire, EMS, Environment Canada, and other stakeholders.
• Incidents involving heavy equipment, vacuum trucks, and water blasters.
• Participating in job specific and health & safety training as required
• Operating his/her position in an efficient and safe manner
• Completing work related documentation and reporting
• Follow all established organizational policies and procedures
• Promote and participate in a work environment free of workplace harassment and violence
• Perform work in a safe manner, so as not to endanger oneself or others
• Reporting workplace hazards, accidents or other occurrences that may pose a risk to the organization or the safety of oneself or others
• Adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and Employment Standards Act
• Participate in team/staff meetings when required

• Valid DZ license required with a suitable drivers abstract
