Job summary

Pason Systems Corp. is seeking a Drilling Optimization Intern to assist in analyzing drilling data and KPIs, under guidance from senior engineers, to enhance the company’s product suite and customer performance reviews.

You will gain exposure to Pason’s products and drilling operations globally while supporting KPI reporting, automation, and field-based learning through mentorship and hands-on projects.

Responsibilities

• Support the creation and maintenance of KPI and performance reports for Pason's drilling products (DAS, TFC, Mud Analyzer, AutoDriller, and others).
• Assist Drilling Optimization Engineers with special drilling projects and engineering analyses of downhole and surface equipment.
• Participate in technical reviews related to drilling automation, optimization, and product tuning.
• Use business intelligence tools to automate KPI reporting and analysis delivery.
• Visit active drilling operations to gain field exposure and operational understanding.

Job description

The Drilling Optimization Intern will be an integral part of the Drilling Optimization Team, where they will be mentored by senior engineers to aid in supporting Pason’s product suite and working with Pason’s customers in evaluating their drilling performance. This will be done through analyzing drilling data and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to inform end-users of performance and opportunities for improvement in drilling operations. Through working with internal teams and customers, the candidate will be exposed to a variety of Pason’s products and drilling operations across the globe.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the creation and maintenance of KPI and performance reports for industry-leading drilling products offered by Pason (including DAS, TFC, Mud Analyzer, AutoDriller, and others).
• Assist Drilling Optimization Engineers with special drilling projects, investigations, engineering analysis of downhole and surface equipment.
• Participate in technical reviews related to drilling automation, optimization, and product tuning.
• Use business intelligence and data connection tools to help automate the delivery of KPI reporting and analysis.
• Visit active drilling operations to gain first‑hand field exposure and operational understanding.

• This position allows an employee to work in a hybrid environment where a portion of their role is in the office and the other portion remote.

Experience

• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 suite of products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Exposure to business intelligence tools such as Spotfire and PowerBI is an asset.
• Experience with Python and/or R is an asset.
• Knowledge of the upstream oil and gas industry and basic terminology.

Education

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Engineering program and have completed year 2, 3 or 4 (if in a co‑op program). Preference given to those in Petroleum/Oil and Gas, Mechanical, Chemical, or a related Engineering discipline from an accredited post‑secondary institution.
