Job summary

EPCOR is hiring a full-time permanent Engineer, Distribution Planning in Edmonton, AB. You will plan EDTI’s electric distribution system, identify deficiencies, and develop solutions to meet load growth and grid transformation.

The ideal candidate has a BSc in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years in distribution planning, and P.Eng with APEGA. Proficiency with CYMDIST, Python, Azure, and Power BI is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in planning electric distribution systems.
  • Registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer.
  • Broad knowledge of electric power systems.
  • Understanding of distribution planning concepts and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with CYMDIST and load-flow/short-circuit analyses.
  • Familiarity with data tools (Python, Azure, DataBricks, Snowflake) is an asset.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Identify feasible technical solutions aligned with EDTI’s long-term plan.
  • Build relationships across EPCOR and the electric industry.
  • Ensure reliable distribution system performance with safe operations.
  • Support development of power flow models and long-term load forecasts.
  • Contribute to 10-year distribution system planning and regulatory filings.
  • Stamp and authenticate engineering studies and outputs.
  • Plan interconnection of distributed generation and DERs.
  • Provide insights to internal stakeholders and budgeting inputs.
  • Lead/participate in projects within the portfolio.
