Job summary

Métis Crossing is seeking a Dishwasher to support our culinary team and assist with events. You will operate the dishwashing area, clean kitchenware, and help maintain a clean, safe back-of-house environment.

Ideal candidates show physical stamina, flexibility to work a mixed schedule, and a willingness to contribute to a culturally rich workplace in Smoky Lake, Alberta.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to life up to 50 pounds.
  • Availability to work a mixed schedule of days, evenings, and weekends.
  • WHMIS and basic First Aid knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience in kitchen support or food service is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate dishwashers to clean pots, pans, utensils, and silverware.
  • Keep the dishwasher area clean and report any equipment issues.
  • Pre-wash and scrub pots and pans; store clean items properly.
  • Maintain hygiene by cleaning food areas and adhering to safety standards.
  • Support back-of-house duties and assist with general cleaning tasks.

The Opportunity

Métis Crossing seeks staff for the position of Dishwasher. The successful applicants will play an integral role in supporting the culinary vision at Métis Crossing including the preparation and serving of indigenous cuisine and supporting special events. Working with the head chef and the 'back-of-house' team,

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate dishwashers to clean pots, pans, utensils, and silverware
  • Keep the dishwasher in clean condition and report any issues or defective equipment
  • Pre-wash and scrub pots and pans
  • Store and organize clean pots, pans, and silverware
  • Monitor and ensure all chemicals used for cleaning and sanitizing are at proper levels
  • General cleaning duties including taking out the trash, sweeping, mopping, and keeping the dishwashing area clean and organized
  • Wipe down and sanitize food areas
  • Use and wear equipment, devices, and clothing required by Métis Crossing and in compliance with OHS
  • Adhere to WHMIS at all times
  • Other "back of house" duties, as needed
  • Able to provide a good guest experience
  • Experience working with diverse audiences of varying cultural backgrounds and ages
  • Flexibility to adjust to changes in schedule and assignments
  • Able to work independently and with others in a team, as well as take direction from others
  • Ability to work in a noisy, fast paced, multitasking environment
  • Must be able to life up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding area, including standing for the duration of shifts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of food service requirements
  • Previous experience as a kitchen helper or server
  • WHMIS and basic First Aid
  • Knowledge and adherence to safe and sanitary food handling procedures
  • Knowledge of Alberta history and cultural diversity

Other Requirements

  • Availability to work a mixed schedule of days, evenings, and weekends
  • Ability to work at Métis Crossing in Smoky Lake
  • Clear Criminal Record Check required
  • Schedule will include weekdays, weekends, and holidays
