Job summary

Shelly’s Indigenous Bistro in Winnipeg, Manitoba is seeking a Dishwasher & Janitorial Associate to keep the restaurant clean, sanitary, and organized throughout the facility. You will support kitchen operations by maintaining dish pits, washrooms, dining areas, and storage spaces, ensuring equipment and surfaces meet inspection standards.

This role offers full-time or part-time hours based on need, with shifts that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Previous dishwashing, sanitation, or cleaning experience is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Sanitize cookware, utensils, trays, and kitchen tools.
  • Maintain clean and organized dish pit, sinks, and sanitation areas.
  • Maintain and monitor sanitation buckets and cleaning solutions as required.
  • Remove garbage, recycling, and compost from the kitchen, dining room, office, entrances, and exterior bins as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the entire facility, including kitchen, dining room, front and back entrances, office, staff areas, walk-in coolers, and dry storage areas.
  • Sweep and mop floors regularly in the kitchen, dining room, entrances, office, and storage areas.
  • Clean and restock washrooms throughout the shift, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors, and supplies.
  • Sanitize high-touch surfaces, including door handles, counters, light switches, and service areas.
  • Follow daily, weekly, and assigned deep-cleaning schedules.
  • Support kitchen staff with basic non-cooking tasks as directed.
  • Maintain compliance with Manitoba food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Dishwasher & Janitorial Associate - Full Time

The Dishwasher & Janitorial Associate supports kitchen and facility operations by maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organization throughout the entire restaurant facility.

This role ensures dishware, equipment, floors, storage areas, dining areas, entrances, office space, and washrooms are clean, safe, and inspection-ready to support uninterrupted food production and service.

Core Responsibilities
  • Operate dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Sanitize cookware, utensils, trays, and kitchen tools.
  • Maintain clean and organized dish pit, sinks, and sanitation areas.
  • Maintain and monitor sanitation buckets and cleaning solutions as required.
  • Remove garbage, recycling, and compost from the kitchen, dining room, office, entrances, and exterior bins as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the entire facility, including:Kitchen and prep areas.Dining room, including tables, chairs, floors, and service stations.Front and back entrance areas.Office and administrative spaces.Staff areas and storage rooms.Walk-in coolers and dry storage areas.
  • Sweep and mop floors regularly in the kitchen, dining room, entrances, office, and storage areas.

Training & Certification Requirements
  • Food Handler Certification is considered an asset but is not mandatory unless required by company policy.
  • WHMIS certification is considered an asset.
  • On-the-job training will be provided.
Employment Requirements & Working Conditions

This position may be full-time or part-time based on operational needs. Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, and peak seasonal periods.

Compensation is based on experience and the internal pay structure and will be confirmed in the Letter of Offer.

A three (3) month probationary period applies. Performance, reliability, cleanliness standards, teamwork, and adherence to sanitation protocols will be reviewed during this period.

Employment is conditional upon:

  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, if required.
  • Signing a Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Signing the Code of Conduct.
  • Compliance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
  • Compliance with company policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements

The role requires extended standing for prolonged periods, frequent lifting of 30–60 lbs, repetitive motion, exposure to water and cleaning chemicals, and the ability to work in a warm, fast-paced kitchen environment.
