Job description

The Position

In support of the Vision, Mission and Values of LutherCare Communities, we are seeking a Disability Support Worker to join our Group Home team. Applicants will be responsible for the personal care and safety of clients and for the implementation of individual lifestyle plans.

Duties and Responsibilities of Disability Support Worker include three main areas:

  • Resident Care – Includes assistance of personal hygiene (bathing, toileting, dressing, eating etc.)
  • Resident Programming – Includes the facilitation of resident daily living activities and participation in the community.
  • Home Maintenance – Includes housekeeping, laundry and the preparation of meals and snacks

Employment Type: Permanent, Part-Time

Hours per Week: Anticipated hours of work will be 22 hours per week.

The Applicant

Applicants would typically qualify for this position through the completion of a grade 12 education with previous experience working with adults with cognitive and physical disabilities in a residential setting. A Disability Support Worker (Rehabilitation Worker) course, Special Care Aide course or equivalent education is preferred, Food Safe Certificate is a requirement, Sign language is desirable. The incumbent must complete Basic Skills Training as provided by LCC. Applicants must be available to work shifts that include days, evenings & weekends. Applicants must possess good interpersonal skills and be able to interpret, read, write and speak English fluently.

The below mentioned certifications would be considered an asset and/or a requirement:

  • TLR (Transfer, Lifting & Repositioning) is considered an asset
  • PART (Professional Assault Response Training) is considered an asset
  • First Aid and CPR is considered an asset
  • Personal Support Worker course is considered an asset
  • Food Safe Certificate is a requirement
