Job summary

Altis is seeking a disability management professional to join a large, unionized healthcare system. You will manage disability claims, coordinate return-to-work and accommodation plans, and collaborate with HR, occupational health, and insurers to ensure compliant, employee-centered solutions.

The role focuses on complex accommodations, policy interpretation, and guidance on legislative requirements, including WSIB and Human Rights considerations, within a collaborative Health, Safety & Wellness

Qualifications

• Experience managing disability claims and return-to-work programs.

Your Responsibilities

• You’ll manage short-term and long-term disability claims, ensuring timely administration and compliance with organizational policies and applicable legislation.
• You’ll develop, coordinate, and monitor return-to-work and workplace accommodation plans in collaboration with employees, managers, healthcare providers, insurers, and union representatives.
• You’ll interpret medical and functional information, translating restrictions into practical workplace accommodations while balancing operational requirements.
• You’ll provide subject matter expertise to leaders and HR partners on disability management, accommodation obligations, and legislative requirements, including WSIB and Human Rights considerations.
• You’ll prepare absence and disability reporting, identify trends, and contribute to process improvements that enhance the employee experience and organizational compliance.
• You’ll collaborate closely with Occupational Health, Safety, and HR teams to promote consistent practices and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills and Qualifications

• 2–3 years of progressive experience managing disability claims and return-to-work programs in a unionized environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Kinesiology, or a related allied health or rehabilitation discipline.
• Strong knowledge of disability management principles, workplace accommodation, WSIB, Human Rights legislation, and collective agreements.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret medical documentation, assess functional abilities, and develop practical accommodation solutions using sound judgment and critical thinking.
• Excellent relationship-building, communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholder groups.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Experience using Occupational Health software such as Cority is considered an asset. Certification as a CDMP or CRTW is also considered an asset.
