Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of disability management claims and promote early return‑to‑work.
  • Conduct functional assessments and interviews to evaluate daily living activities.
  • Review medical/work documentation to determine eligibility and key elements.
  • Adjudicate claims with accuracy per policies and guidelines.
  • Document all activities and next steps in the claims system.
  • Ensure a Care Management Action Plan is in place for all files.
  • Develop and manage recovery and return‑to‑work plans with transitions.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, support partners, and employers.
  • Provide guidance to Recovery Facilitators and staff to ensure consistency.
  • Monitor claim status, update the system, and prepare reports.
  • Facilitate return‑to‑work negotiations and coordinate modified duties.
  • Record time (billable/non‑billable) and complete file reviews with leads.
  • Act as primary contact on ad‑hoc claims and coordinate with client teams.

About the Role

We are seeking a Bilingual Disability Management Specialist to join our Organizational Solutions team (OSI). The specialist will oversee the full lifecycle of disability management claims, including complex files, and will promote early, safe return-to-work outcomes through individualized plans and coordination with providers and clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed functional assessments and phone interviews to evaluate activities of daily living and functional capacity.
  • Review medical and workplace documentation to determine eligibility and key claim elements.
  • Adjudicate claims in accordance with OSI and client policies with a high degree of excellence.
  • Document all claim activities, communications, and next steps in the Internal Claims Management System.
  • Ensure a Care Management Action Plan is in place for all files.
  • Develop and manage recovery and return-to-work plans, including transitional return-to-work strategies.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, other support service partners, and employers to optimize treatment and accommodations.
  • Provide guidance and support to other Recovery Facilitators and staff, sharing expertise and promoting consistency.
  • Monitor and update claim status, ensuring the system is fully updated and reports are accurate.
  • Facilitate return-to-work negotiations with employers, communicating claimant capabilities and securing modified duties when appropriate.
  • Record all billable and non-billable time and complete file reviews with team leads as required.
  • Act as the primary contact on assigned ad‑hoc claims and coordinate with client teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Bilingual in French and English (written and oral).
  • Strong planning, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Problem‑solving ability with a focus on developing effective, rapid solutions.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong analytical reasoning.
  • Excellent customer‑service, communication, negotiation, and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Ability to work within established procedures and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and respect for diverse experience levels.
  • Knowledge of short‑term and long‑term disability programs, medical terminology, and common physical and mental health conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant experience in disability management, claims adjudication, return‑to‑work initiatives, and STD/LTD claims management.
  • Registered professional designation or certification (e.g., RN, RPN, Certified Disability Management Practitioner, Certified Return‑to‑Work Coordinator).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn internal database systems.
Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: $60,000 to $67,000 annually (does not include variable compensation such as bonuses or commission). Additional benefits include a comprehensive group benefits plan and a generous retirement savings plan.
