Altis Technology in Toronto, ON is seeking a disability management professional to lead complex return-to-work and workplace accommodation initiatives within a large unionized healthcare environment.

You will partner with employees, managers, HR, occupational health nurses, insurers, physicians, and union representatives to deliver thoughtful, compliant disability solutions that support employee wellbeing while helping the organization maintain safe and effective operations.

Qualifications

  • Progressive disability claim management experience in a unionized setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, kinesiology or related allied health field.
  • Strong knowledge of disability management, workplace accommodation, WSIB and Human Rights legislation.
  • Ability to interpret medical documentation and translate into practical accommodations.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage short-term and long-term disability claims with timely administration and policy compliance.
  • Develop, coordinate and monitor return-to-work and accommodation plans with employees, managers, healthcare providers, insurers, and union reps.
  • Interpret medical information and translate restrictions into practical workplace accommodations.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on disability management and legislative requirements including WSIB and Human Rights considerations.
  • Prepare absence and disability reporting, identify trends, and support process improvements.
  • Collaborate with Occupational Health, Safety, and HR to promote consistent practices.

Working within a collaborative Health, Safety & Wellness team, you'll partner with employees, leaders, HR professionals, occupational health nurses, insurers, physicians, and union representatives to deliver thoughtful, compliant, and people-focused disability management solutions. Your expertise will directly support employee wellbeing while helping the organization maintain safe and effective operations.

Your Responsibilities
  • You'll manage short-term and long-term disability claims, ensuring timely administration and compliance with organizational policies and applicable legislation.
  • You'll develop, coordinate, and monitor return-to-work and workplace accommodation plans in collaboration with employees, managers, healthcare providers, insurers, and union representatives.
  • You'll interpret medical and functional information, translating restrictions into practical workplace accommodations while balancing operational requirements.
  • You'll provide subject matter expertise to leaders and HR partners on disability management, accommodation obligations, and legislative requirements, including WSIB and Human Rights considerations.
  • You'll prepare absence and disability reporting, identify trends, and contribute to process improvements that enhance the employee experience and organizational compliance.
  • You'll collaborate closely with Occupational Health, Safety, and HR teams to promote consistent practices and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills and Qualifications
  • 23 years of progressive experience managing disability claims and return-to-work programs in a unionized environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Kinesiology, or a related allied health or rehabilitation discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of disability management principles, workplace accommodation, WSIB, Human Rights legislation, and collective agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret medical documentation, assess functional abilities, and develop practical accommodation solutions using sound judgment and critical thinking.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Experience using Occupational Health software such as Cority is considered an asset. Certification as a CDMP or CRTW is also considered an asset.
