Job Description:

Reporting to the AVP, Individual Wealth Operations, this role is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership,delivering client service excellence, and driving continuous improvement and innovation for Individual Wealth Operations.

We’re seeking an experienced operations director who is client relationship focused and has the proven ability to transform the service delivery processes and management of outcomes. As the Director of Individual Wealth Operations, you will be accountable to deliver best-in-class service delivery, in a cost-effective manner, for a strategic growth area of Sun Life.

This includes and not limited to client/advisor servicing for Mutual Fund, Segregated Fund, AA and GIC products. This leader will support the strategies and objectives of Individual Wealth and SLGI (Sun Life Global Investments) with the purpose of delivering an exceptional client and Advisor experience. The incumbent will be responsible for initiating, leading, and managing change in a high volume, fast paced, front line client service environment.

What will you do?

  • Overall accountability for leadership of a team of approximately 40 people in 3 sites (Toronto, Waterloo and Montreal) and oversight of our outsourced back office.
  • Develop governance for all business processes and transactions to meet regulatory requirements and business objectives.
  • Liaise effectively with internal partners including Distribution and Business Development, IT, Finance, Business Excellence and Enablement Services to ensure superior, cost-effective service delivery.
  • Continually improve the delivery on key performance targets, meeting and improving on published service standards in a cost-effective manner and within budget.
  • Develop and effectively use the management operating system framework (balanced scorecard, KPIs and dashboards) to manage the business.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders to ensure collaborative approach to planning and implementation of new clients and initiatives.
  • Relationship manager for investment fund business process vendors including, but not limited to, IFDS, Broadridge and FundSERV.
  • Facilitate vendor alignment to delivery investment fund strategies, goals and objectives.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external colleagues in the Investment Funds industry.
  • Fosters a culture of Continuous Improvement.
  • Participate in investment fund industry committees.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Minimum of 5 years of operational leadership experience in the investment fund industry.
  • In-depth understanding of the Mutual Fund, Segregated Fund and Guaranteed Wealth industry, including applicable regulatory regimes, industry challenges, trends, and upcoming innovation.
  • Mutual Fund manufacturing operational and regulatory environment knowledge and experience.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to develop exceptional leaders and to inspire the team to deliver excellent resultsin a rapidly changing environment.
  • Operational skills – entrepreneurial mindset, manage risk, data driven and people focused.
  • Client relationship skills, relationship management skills and a solution-oriented approach.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Organization and prioritization skills.
  • Communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.
  • Canadian Securities Course (CSC), Canadian Investment Fund Course (CIFC) and/or Officers’, Partners’ and Directors Course (OPD) would be an asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
