Job Description

CAMH is seeking an accomplished and visionary leader to serve as full-time, permanent Director, Industry Partnerships and Technology Transfer (IPTTO). Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Research & Science, the Director will lead the strategic evolution of CAMH's research commercialization and innovation agenda. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape how groundbreaking mental health discoveries move beyond the laboratory to create meaningful impact for patients, the health system and society.

The Director provides leadership for CAMH's Industry Partnerships and Technology Transfer Office, developing and implementing the research institute’s commercialization strategy while cultivating a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship and strategic partnership across the research enterprise. Working closely with scientists, executive leadership, legal counsel, research finance, government agencies, investors and global industry partners, the Director will position CAMH as a leader in translating research discoveries into real-world solutions through licensing, venture creation, strategic collaborations and commercialization.

This role requires a strategic thinker with demonstrated success navigating the intersection of science, intellectual property, business development and investment, and someone who thrives building partnerships that accelerate innovation while advancing CAMH's mission to improve mental health care worldwide.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategic direction of CAMH's Industry Partnerships and Technology Transfer Office, advancing the commercialization of research discoveries in alignment with the Institute's strategic priorities.
  • Develop and execute research commercialization strategies that translate innovative research into products, technologies and partnerships that improve mental health outcomes.
  • Build and sustain strategic relationships with industry, investors, government, healthcare organizations and academic partners to expand research commercialization opportunities and strengthen CAMH's innovation ecosystem.
  • Provide senior oversight of CAMH's intellectual property portfolio, including invention assessment, patent strategy, technology valuation and commercialization planning.
  • Lead the negotiation and execution of complex commercialization and partnership agreements, working collaboratively with Legal Services, Research Finance and other institutional partners.
  • Advance the development of CAMH spin-off companies and secure translational, proof-of-principle and industry-sponsored funding to accelerate technology development.
  • Champion a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship by providing strategic advice, education and mentorship to researchers while increasing awareness of commercialization opportunities across the Institute.
  • Represent CAMH provincially, nationally and internationally, enhancing the organization's reputation as a leader in mental health innovation, technology transfer and research commercialization.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering collaboration, accountability, operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the Senior Vice President, Research & Science and the Research Institute Leadership team on matters related to innovation, commercialization, industry engagement and intellectual property.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with a proven record of translating scientific innovation into societal and commercial impact.

You Will Possess
  • An advanced degree in Life Sciences; a PhD and/or MBA is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive progressive leadership experience (6 years minimum, 10+ years preferred) in technology transfer, commercialization, innovation management or business development within an academic, healthcare, research or biotechnology environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in intellectual property strategy, patent portfolio management and technology commercialization.
  • A successful track record supporting technology licensing, commercialization initiatives and/or startup company formation.
  • Significant experience negotiating complex commercial and research agreements.
  • Experience developing strategic partnerships with industry, investors, venture capital organizations and government partners.
  • Strong business acumen, including technology valuation, market analysis, business planning and commercialization strategy.
  • Exceptional executive presence, communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex strategic initiatives.
  • Certification as a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) or Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) would be considered an asset.
Executive Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary is competitive and based on experience, with a hiring range of $147,698.95 - $184,623.68 per year. ( based on leadership experience, qualifications, and organizational needs )
  • Full Salary Range: $147,698.95 - $221,548.42 per year ( reflecting progressive growth and leadership tenure within the organization )
