About UJA Federation Of Greater Toronto

UJA Federation’s mission is to preserve and strengthen the quality of Jewish life in Greater Toronto, Canada, Israel, and around the world through philanthropic, volunteer, and professional leadership. Year after year, UJA’s Annual Campaign - which raises approximately $60 million annually - allows UJA to care for our most vulnerable; build and strengthen Jewish identity and education, invest in Israel and overseas, and promote Jewish/Israel advocacy, while also creating infrastructure throughout the GTA that serves not only the Jewish community but the community-at-large.

About The Opportunity

UJA is seeking a dynamic and innovative Senior Design Lead to play a pivotal role in building the UJA brand, appealing to prospective donors and enhancing existing donors’ connection to UJA.

As a key member of the Marketing Hub team, reporting to the VP of Marketing & Brand Strategy, this role will focus on providing leadership and administrative support to the design team, ensuring design consistency, project coordination, and supporting the creation of various marketing materials to advance UJA's fundraising and programmatic goals. While the role still involves hands-on design, a significant portion of the focus will be on mentoring, coaching, and providing strategic design support to other designers that report into this role. Additionally, this role will lead the creative design and implementation of UJA's rebrand project, ensuring that the updated brand is adaptable and functional across all platforms, while aligning with the overall strategic goals of the organization. This role will oversee the rollout, ensuring the creation of all necessary brand assets and documents for a smooth and cohesive brand transition.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Lead and Support Design Projects: Oversee and coordinate the design process for key UJA Federation initiatives (e.g., AGM, annual reports, impact reports, etc.), ensuring creative, brand-aligned, and impactful campaigns that are on-time, on-budget, and meet project objectives.
  2. Lead Rebrand Creative Design: Take the lead in the creative design of UJA's rebrand project, ensuring that all design elements reflect the new brand strategy and resonate with both existing and prospective donors. Work closely with senior leadership and internal and external partners to bring the rebrand vision to life across all platforms.
  3. Design Mentorship: Act as a mentor and coach to other designers, providing support and guidance to ensure adherence to brand standards and to help elevate the design quality across the team.
  4. Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with the Marketing Operations, Digital Marketing, and Events teams to ensure alignment between design and overall brand strategy while providing administrative and logistical support for design needs.
  5. Brand Stewardship: Support the development of the UJA brand strategy from a design perspective, ensuring consistency in brand identity across all channels, and helping design impactful materials for both prospective and existing donors.
  6. Project Management: Oversee the progress of design projects and assist in maintaining timelines, ensuring resources are available, and communicating effectively with stakeholders across departments.
  7. Support External Relationships: Help manage relationships with external agencies and vendors, ensuring materials meet UJA’s brand standards and campaign goals, and support the RFP process to find suitable partners.
  8. Design Tools & Guidelines: Develop style guides, templates, and tools that support the design team’s production process and ensure consistency in design outputs across the organization.
  9. Lead Hiring for Design Resources: Lead the recruitment process for new design resources as needed, ensuring the team has the right talent to meet the demands of the organization’s design needs.

Qualifications:

  1. A degree in Design, Communications/Advertising, or a related discipline
  2. 7+ years of experience working as a Graphic Designer, with a proven track record of supporting design teams and managing design projects
  3. Proficient in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and motion design software (a plus)
  4. Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality design across various marketing campaigns and media
  5. Ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and project requirements are met
  6. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with experience managing direct reports
  7. Strong organizational skills with experience managing design resources and workflows
  8. Experience leading creative design for rebrand projects or large-scale brand initiatives
  9. Experience working with print, digital, and experiential design
  10. Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills – comfortable presenting to various stakeholders and cross-functional teams
  11. Experience in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating resources
  12. Copywriting skills are an asset
  13. Experience in Stripo, Campaign Monitor and Wrike is a plus
  14. Experience working in the non-profit sector is a plus
  15. Passion for UJA’s vision, and commitment to Jewish community vitality
  16. This is a full-time permanent position. At UJA we support a flexible work schedule and all of our employees engage in hybrid work. Engagement and connection are key to supporting the best employee experience and we want to ensure that this puts balance and well-being at the forefront of our approach to ways of working. In addition to a rich time off policy, UJA’s offices are closed on all Jewish holy days (yom tov) and we support early office closures to observe the Jewish Sabbath (Shabbat).
