What Is the Opportunity?
Manage & monitor the design and execution of underwriting guidelines and controls for the Travelers Canada Businesses to ensure compliance & alignment with Corporate UW standards.
What Will You Do?
- Execute or assist in managing, developing, and executing the underwriting audit functions for the business, including updating policies, participating in audits, scheduling, leading audits, compiling reports, selecting audit teams, reperformance, and assisting with corrective actions.
- Assess or assist with underwriting controls, determine impacts of deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare or assist with senior management reports and reports required for compliance, SOX certification, authority, contingency plans, legal compliance, and other key functions.
- Prepare monitoring reports highlighting key developments and recommending corrective actions.
- Monitor collateral management, record retention, confidentiality, bonds & policies, paperless strategies, and credit card payments.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of underwriting controls to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and best practices, implementing improvements as needed.
- Work with Underwriting Management to create and maintain Authority Letter Templates, ensuring adherence to guidelines and proper documentation for audits.
- Serve as a point of contact for underwriting audit-related matters with Business Units, Compliance, Regulators, and other key functions.
- Anticipate future operational needs and communicate with senior management to support compliance and strategic improvements.
- Conduct training and awareness programs across the organization to improve skills and knowledge.
- Build and lead a high-performing, engaged team, including talent identification, coaching, and mentoring.
- Lead inclusively, manage change effectively, and perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Thorough knowledge of risk assessment, technology, and auditing principles.
- Understanding of policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Subject Matter Expertise in key duties.
- Experience in surety business underwriting.
- Prior audit experience.
- Knowledge of legal environment affecting insurance operations.
- Advanced knowledge of surety underwriting, financial analysis, risk assessment, invoicing, reinsurance, and monitoring.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent attention to detail, writing, communication, and decision-making skills.
What Is a Must Have?
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in business, insurance, risk management, or audit.
