YWCA BC is seeking a Digital Literacy Trainer to design and deliver practical digital literacy workshops across Metro Vancouver communities. You will support participants with beginner to intermediate skills, focusing on accessibility, safety, and confidence in using technology.
The role requires collaboration with multiple programs, travel between locations, and a commitment to equity and inclusive learning.
Regular Full Time, 35 hours per week, In-person
535 Hornby Street, Vancouver, BC; ability to work at other YWCA locations across the YWCA BC program across Metro Vancouver is required.
The Digital Literacy Trainer plays a key role in advancing digital inclusion across YWCA BC programs and communities.
Access to employment, education, healthcare, government services, financial resources, and community participation increasingly depends on digital skills and access to technology. From applying for jobs and booking medical appointments to supporting children's education and accessing online services, people without the skills, confidence, devices, or connectivity they need can face significant barriers to participating in everyday life.
The Digital Literacy Trainer designs and delivers practical, participant-centered training for people with beginner to intermediate digital skills, including those with little or no prior experience using technology. Working with people and communities experiencing barriers to digital access and participation, the Trainer helps participants develop the skills and confidence to use technology safely and independently in their everyday lives.
Participants may experience barriers related to income, housing instability, disability, language, newcomer or refugee experiences, age, limited formal education, or access to reliable internet and devices. The Trainer recognizes that everyone's experience with technology is different and adapts their approach to participants' individual needs, goals, abilities, and circumstances.
This is an independent, community-based role that involves regularly working across YWCA BC locations, programs, and community sites. The Trainer facilitates workshops and Community Digital Skills Clinics, provides one-to-one support, identifies emerging needs, and develops accessible learning opportunities and resources.
The successful candidate brings patience, empathy, curiosity, flexibility, and strong relationship-building skills to their work. They understand that technology can feel intimidating and create welcoming environments where participants are comfortable asking questions, practising new skills, and learning at their own pace. They communicate in plain language, avoid unnecessary technical jargon, and use demonstrations, repetition, visual resources, and step-by-step instruction to support different ways of learning.
In addition to training delivery, the Trainer supports YWCA BC's Loaner Laptop Program and community technology resources, helping ensure devices are functional, secure, accessible, and ready for participant use.
