Job description

We’re looking for a Digital Communications Coordinator who knows that great communication is more than posting content – it’s about connecting people with the right message, at the right moment, in the right place. You’ll help our organization be visible, responsive and consistent across our digital channels, bringing energy, clarity and thoughtful judgment to everything from social media and email to website updates and digital campaigns. If you’re ready to make an impact and hope our organization grow, this could be the role for you!

About Us

At the Calgary Food Bank our mission is “to make food accessible to everyone in our city”. Our core belief is that no one in our community should go without food, and this continues to serve as our guiding principle for the future. We are the first line of emergency food support for people facing crisis and served over 200,000 Emergency Food Hampers to our community last year. We also provide over 80 partner charities throughout the city with food. As an organization, we pride ourselves on being client centered, community focused, and committed to excellence in both our operations and culture.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement, the Digital Communications Coordinator owns Calgary Food Bank’s day-to-day digital execution and helps turn organizational priorities into a practical digital strategy and content cadence. They are responsible for planning and managing digital activity across social, email, website updates, and campaign support. This includes keeping channels active, publishing content accurately, monitoring audience response, tracking performance, and making practical recommendations based on what is working and what is not.

This is a hands‑on role. Calgary Food Bank needs someone who can manage digital channels confidently, build a realistic publishing rhythm, provide clear performance updates to leadership, and identify when additional strategic, creative, digital, web, analytics, media, or production support is needed and help coordinate the appropriate resources.

What You’ll Do
Digital Strategy, Planning, and Cadence:
  • Build and maintain a practical digital communications strategy that supports Calgary Food Bank’s organizational priorities, audience needs, seasonal moments, campaigns, and service updates.
  • Translate annual and 90-day communications priorities into a realistic digital content plan across social, email, website, and campaign activity.
  • Establish a consistent publishing cadence, so digital activity feels planned, purposeful, and connected across channels.
  • Coordinate timelines, approvals, links, calls to action, and required assets before content is published.
  • Review the digital plan regularly and adjust based on performance, organizational needs, and emerging opportunities.
  • Work with internal departments to identify, plan, and support external communications needs, ensuring important updates, initiatives, events, services, and priorities are reflected across digital channels.
Social Media and Community Management:
  • Plan, schedule, publish, and monitor content across Calgary Food Bank’s social media channels.
  • Manage comments, direct messages, mentions, and day‑to‑day community engagement.
  • Identify sensitive questions, misinformation, complaints, or issues that require escalation.
  • Adapt content by platform, recognizing that LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and other channels play different roles.
  • Support stronger use of video, carousels, stories, partner content, volunteer stories, and recurring content formats.
  • Monitor community conversations and share relevant audience insights with the communications team.
Email Marketing and Digital Content Management:
  • Build, test, schedule, and deploy email communications, including newsletters, appeals, volunteer updates, donor communications, and campaign emails.
  • Support segmentation as Calgary Food Bank’s email and CRM capabilities mature.
  • Monitor email performance and identify opportunities to improve opens, clicks, donations, sign‑ups, and engagement.
  • Make routine website updates, including news posts, landing pages, event pages, service information, donation pages, volunteer pages, partner updates, and campaign content.
  • Keep key information current, accessible, searchable, and easy to navigate.
  • Support basic SEO practices, including page titles, headings, metadata, internal links, and web content that is easier for audiences to find and use.
  • Help identify outdated content, broken links, unclear user journeys, or information that should move from PDF to web.
Paid Digital and Support Coordination:
  • Support boosted posts and smaller paid social efforts.
  • Coordinate assets, timelines, links, targeting inputs, and approvals for paid digital campaigns.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to support paid media planning, implementation, optimization, and reporting.
  • Help ensure paid activity connects to clear goals, landing pages, calls to action, and measurement.
  • Identify when initiatives require additional strategic, creative, media, web, analytics, or production support and help facilitate the appropriate resources.
Reporting and Optimization:
  • Prepare regular performance summaries across social, email, website, paid digital, and campaign activity.
  • Track agreed‑upon KPIs and provide the executive team with a minimum quarterly update on digital performance, including what is working, what is not, and what should change.
  • Share practical insights on content themes, audience behaviours, channel gaps, campaign results, and digital opportunities that require leadership awareness.
  • Make recommendations based on performance, not just activity.
  • Support stronger reporting practices in collaboration with internal teams and external partners to improve measurement, insights, and decision‑making.
Campaign Support:

During campaign activity, this role supports digital rollout and performance.

  • Confidence translating performance data into plain‑language recommendations for leadership.
  • Strong organization and time management.
